Anyone see the slot on the storms in WA and QLD - showed guys in QLD surfing and then showed a kiter getting ready.

I was thinking cool we will see some kiting on the news - unfortunately it wasnt what we wanted as this guy gets teabagged from the beach towards the carpark nearly taking out the cameraman - cant work out how he didnt take him out!

Just sat there with my head in my hands going here we go....

But this is the story in the news.

"The kite surfers are the only people having a great time with the winds."

yeah good call bobsan.

i was at the beach that day. the camera man who is a friend of the dude getting dragged ask the rider to do some crazy **** for the story. doin big jumps he landed nice and close to the beach as requested. hit by a gust on landing and dragged lauging all the way. if you were there you would've seen a perfect recovery and he basically meant to do what he did. he was nowhere near the ****ing carpark jack off. what you didn't see was the riders getting interviewed stressing the need for saftey and lessons. this was cut out of the news due to the fact its not as interesting as someone wiping out. the boys were basically told to say what they said. and enjoyed the laugh doing it.

hope you and your little dog stay in WA. people like you posting smack are bad for the sport. not some guy doing big jumps in strong wind for the camera.

channel 7 thanked all the guys at the beach. they have requested the rider to do more stories in the futures.

My post or smack as you put it is in response to a person who you point out as being competent doing some
crazy ****
for the media.

If he was competent he would have done his tricks on the water where Im sure it would have looked a lot better than him being teabagged across the beach.

Common sense and safety are required and people to learn from actions of others who should have known better - especially jumping kite on the beach in 30Kts of wind. Im sure if safety was a consideration these actions wouldnt have been attempted and lessons would have outlined why not to do so.

Feel free to tap away on your computers at work and say what we all should do, other than that you kite looping flat water legends should just keep on being, wearing your shorts over wet suits hiding the bits, us surfing repectable folk know you do not have.

I concur. Just get out there and kitesurf and stop making up rules telling people what they can and can't do . Just chill out. Where were you anyway Lance when all this was going down?

I can see what people's concerns are with the image of kitesurfing playing a part in the public's eye and hence possibly being able to evoke complaints and bannings eventually, but to what extent are we going to let that us stop having fun?

I wouldn't attempt to slam every kiter that gets dragged along the beach, I mean if there was no-one there, then why not go nuts? As long as he doesn't get himself killed or injured.

yeeaaahhh, i was wondering if i was the only one a bit sick of the safety police.
So what if you get dragged on the beach?
we 've all done it
did you forget to have fun?
Sorry to burst the bubble on our "extreme sport" but there is way more people waisting themselves riding a pushbike than kiting
Get out there, have fun, push your limit, scare the #$%^ out of yourself once in a while for an adrenalin boost and make sure you don't injure any third party

The point is more people sucked in to act for the camera so the media can slam another sporting group for ratings. If you want to loop up the beach feel free, I'll cheer and maybe throw money but doing it for channel 7? The aussie media are all pushing an agenda. They do stuff under the guise of "reporting" ie being part of a plot to organise a hit, stalking people with undercover stories, Tania and the soldiers which would heve been nothing if not for the media and they do things that the average citizen would be charged for but seem to be above the law because they are reporters..... Go hard guys but not for the media to use to slam us when they run out of other sports to hassle.

I seen it, i think there are are better things you could do to impress the camera man like show some skill, it takes no skill to go up the beach backwards. To me looks like he was trying to show off to much ****ed up and now he looks like a bit off dick.

We have all done it but maybe not all of us would do it for a tv Camera. All i can say is lucky DK wasn't there.

ok guys seriously thats enough bull****. IT WAS THE NEWS REPOTERS WHO CHOSE WHAT WENT ON THE TV. as for skill the rider. he was riding a totally powered up 12m Xbow in 35 knots doing cool **** befor the wipeout. i beleive that IS skill. there was also a rider out there doing wake tricks. the news people chose the wipeout to put on because it is more interesting than a guy doing floaty jumps or a guy doing wake. because we all know wake looks like a mid-air epileptic fit to the untrained couch sitter watching the 6pm news.

Don't worry drew1234.... you'll never meet any of these police. They are KK (Keyboard Kiters), they never stray too far from the computer and have the BEST AND MOST CORRECT opinion on anything.

I think people are sort of arguing the same thing. No one is saying your dick for getting dragged up the beach. Everyone has done it, I know I have. I know it wasn't his choice what got shown on TV etc. but seriously it is not great to have multiple stories on TV about kiters appearing out of control being dragged in the sand. I am not part of the safety police, far from it. I do recognize however the need (especially at the moment) to portray our sport in a positive light in the media.

Oh yeah 12 m crossbow in a REAL 35 knots, real responsible.

The issue in not one of how skilled someone is or good they are at flying a 12m in 35kts. It is about the warped perception of our sport by the public and the very real possibility of bannings by that same public due to safety concerns.

I did not see the footage, and from what I have heard there seems to be nothing the guy did wrong (assuming the cameraman or others were not in fact in danger of being taken out) - but unfortunately a drag up the beach looks like a kite out of control to the public, no matter who did it and what they had done immediately prior to or after it. It seems a lot of good stuff was filmed including comments on safety, and some good skilled riding....and what did the media show? - the "out of control bit". They will do it every time....and keep it on file for next time when no one will "perform" for them.

There is not much we can do about it, although I would suggest that anyone who knows they are being filmed by the media resist the urge to push their limits, and above all be safe. It is a great chance to show off and you might pull stuff you have never done before, and the temptation of getting that on the news is high. But the only thing that will get on the TV is the huge stack you or someone else did. Sad but true.

That said - I saw a 2sec shot on the news last night of a kite going out through the surf with Old Woman Island in the background. Nothing fancy or hard, but looked good....so maybe they aren't all bad!

What a Sic few days we have all had on the goldie, yesterday was great!!

I saw the footage aswell and seriously with gusts reaching the 35knots mark, i think we all know how fast things can go bad, especially riding overpowered .

Def no need to show off in 35knts of wind on the sand, stick to the water for all your irish shannagins!

The footage was about the beach being closed due to storms and how some people can turn this into a good time. They showed surfers in big waves and kiters in big winds.

There was no members of 'joe public' on the beach. The article was positive.

BTW, showing someone drag up the beach is a good thing! It shows what CAN happen and may teach Joe Public not to set up his picnic rug 10m down wind of someone launching. This could prevent accidents in the future.

Councils see this and think that what if the beach was crowded and this happened--> injury--> sue so to cover their arses they ban us. Nice spin on it I wish it worked like that though. Even though the report may have been positive it showed a negative aspect of the sport.

So that is my spin, the above is your spin, the stuff on the TV channel 7's spin. It's all spin. Unless you are mind reader then how do you know what a councilors spin is to watching that particular article? Maybe they are thinking of a clubbie drowning while rescuing a surfer... or about a road washing away or can the storm water system handle the rain. Are we that self important that everything is about us?
