Does anyone know of any spots (on the sand or nearby grassed areas) around City Beach and Oceanus restaurant that is protected from the sea breeze in summer late afternoon? Seems wrong asking for no wind!! hehehe

Missy,

Let me guess ?
You're getting married there and you're looking for a calm spot to say "I do".

Hey Missy,
Congratulations on the news :)
City Beach is not very protected at all. There is grass South (up wind) of Oceanus but no wind break and no particularly pretty backdrop either.
North (down wind) of Oceanus has some grass protected by some wispy trees, which are hardly enough of a wind-break to stop your hair and flowers blowing around etc. and offer real wind protection.
There are no protected areas on the sand except perhaps for a tiny section immediately North (down-wind) of the main groyne and right at the water.
There is a large oval over the road from Oceanus but I guess you want a beach backdrop.
None of these offer an ideal option.
Can't think of any other spots along the coast that would be better off the top of my head but will have a think and get back to you if I come up with something.
Unfortunately beach and wind-protection are generally mutually exclusive...
Jess
PS, hope your trip to the States was fun :)

Maybe cott? Just north of dutchies and before the cott surf club...theres a nice 'stone' arrangement that sits on top of the limestone cliffs. There should be some wind break from the feature stones.
Often see a few wedding photo sessions there. Plus its only 200m from dutchies!

Check it out

Hey Jess,
Thanks for the suggestions.
Looks like I will have to look at an indoor option and maybe play it ear on the day, if the breeze isn't on that day, then we can do it outside, if its on, inside for us?

Or a pretty crazy idea... maybe we could just have a few BIG kites setup to make some kind of wall to block the wind???? That would be cool and very different!

The states were great... seems so long ago now though!

Puppet, you'll hear all bout it... its still some time off yet, fill you in by water at Melville at Christmas.

Actually I know the lay-out of City Beach well because in autumn and winter when there's no wind I go "thrashing" on my bike along the path there and always stop for a drink at the fountain.
So there you little gossip-mongers
