Gday,
I have a question for those who have sailed Cocos Islands. What is the surf like there? Is it kite-surfable? Many spots? Wind direction?
Thinking about a June/July trip next year...still undecided as to destination...Mauritius, Brazil, Indo (Aug) or Cocos...DECISIONS DECISIONS!
I read in a Kiteworld mag about Felix and Will James doing a trip there around the same time but from the sounds of the article, waveriding wasn't too inviting (Stories of death rotor blades ripping canopies, huge wind shadows and reef sucking dry).
Has anyone actually kited on waves there?
Cheers
Dan

waves can be very good we had 8ft last yr, winding off the reef
(video to prove), fairly consistent, generally smaller than that, very pleasant warm super clear water, like surfing in a tropical aquarium
wouldnt go there for a surf trip thou
not sure about kiting
good thing about the surf its offshore all day, everyday
that article was pretty accurate, u want to be good, prepared to lose gear and get smashed, wind broken up by palm trees that line the beach
as far as i know no other waves to kite, i tried to get out to the reef on the windward side but inner lagoon was very shallow, razor sharp rock and coral nigger heads around and couldnt really identify a wave out there as such either
could try looking off home island but requires ferry trip
