It always cracks me up when people and the media describe kitesurfing as extreme .So does that make driving a car extreme too? .most people learn gradually and understand that that is a better idea than hopping into a V8 super car and driving around a race track with all the other v8's for your first drive . If people learn how to fly a trainer by feel (not looking at it) and the same with a kitesurf kite in light to moderate conditions and add things like lots of other kites ,lots of wind and board as their kite skills are automated and are taught what it is that you need to do to be safe and most importantly are patient then their should not be anything extreme about the sport .I rarely see inexperience d or new kiters consolidating yheir skills on moderate days the ones that are a bit light for the board yet they are out there which is wasted opportunity and will mean fewer headlines like this.
