Hi Col,
Mate it was great to see you in the shop today, sorry I was a little bit pre occupied with my students. It didn’t surprise me at all to see you handle this situation with such strength and charisma.
Good on ya big fella,

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone for your support and encouragement. I know there are many of you out there who have contacted me via sms and or left phone messages that I haven't replied to as yet so I apologize for my lack of contact.
I'm very much involved in specialist appointments etc. and keep hoping every day for a bit of good news. The latest is that I am being booked into Sydney eye Hospital for some further work on my right eye. Today 3 more retina tears were picked up so a bit of repair work is needed. Hoping for about 30% vision loss only in the right eye. My left is still stuffed altogether so just have to wait and "see ".
Thank you also for your kind offers of transport and financial assistance... I am humbled by your generosity and friendship .
One thing is for sure ...I'm getting back out under a kite whatever it takes....I'll wear a bell around my neck so you know to stay clear of the one eye cyclops.
Thanks so much again folks ...I really ,really appreaciate you.
kindest regards

Just heard Col needs some more surgery, wow hope it goes well mate!
Cols about 3K down the gurgler just for what he had done by the docs in WA, he has medicare but no gap cover, anthing you can do to help will really help him relax, he cannot do his normal job, and may never be able to return to it.
Anyone got any pics of Col "in his office" as in jumping large or just riding around the bay or Wanda?
Please send them to me or post in the gallery here.

Col, you are an inspiration mate on the water and off, and will be even more so now. I have left Sydney and kite elsewhere now but what I miss the most is the great blokes and gals in the kiting crew down at Dolls. You are one of the anchors for that. See you out there.

Dear All,
You are cordially invited to a BBQ lunch at Dolls Point, Botany Bay this Sunday 3rd February 2008 from 1:00pm.
Southern Sydney Kiteboarding Club is raising money to help our good friend Col Packer who suffered a serious accident kiting in Geraldton, WA. a few weeks ago. Many of you may already know that Col has lost the sight in one eye and has partial vision in the other after slamming into a wave and dislodging both retinas. He needs to undergo further surgery to save what sight he has.
Your contribution to the day will help enormously with Col's medical expenses which are considerable.
So come along, have a kite if the wind's up and enjoy a drink with us and something from the BBQ. Any donation as well will be gratefuly accepted.
Thanks,
Graeme Snowdon

Just a quick update and a message from Col apologising because he will not be able to come to the BBQ on Sunday at Dolls Point in Sydney.
Last night Col had emergency surgery, at around 11.00pm, he fronted hospital after experiencing severe pain/flashing light in his right eye that still has some vision. A gas bubble was injected into his eay after the (another) retina tear was reattached. Col now has to stay indoors and out of bright light for 4 days and keep his head at a certain angle=boring misery!
Poor bastard is really going through the wars. Please don't try to call him or especially don't text him, he just has to lay low for a few days and let the healing take place.
Best wishes Col!
