The Contacio Wave Compo is back on and Registrations are now open until next Wednesday the 17th January. The Comp is on next Saturday the 20th and 21st of January at Scabrough Beach. The Goal of the Comp is Fun and to get as many wave riders together as possible, so every one enter just for a blast. A good vibe and having a go is more important than results at the end of the day. Please put your name up on this thread to enter. Full details of Comp to follow later today with a new revised judging criteia closly following the 2006 ASP surfing judging style. This system awards Innovative and progressive wave riding adjusted for kite surfing. Judging is made much easier. Please follow this thread closely as we will only run comp if we get wind both days. The Comp is open to all wave riders of all styles and levels with all scored equally. The top 16 riders from last year will go into the main event, so all qualifiers will not have to ride straight up against the top riders in state first up. Comp only open to WAKSA members and there is a $10 entery Fee on day. We will provide Tents, food and drinks on all days with a BBQ on grassed area after comp for prizes and socializing and Beer drinking. Bring your friends and family. We will have an open mens/ Womens and Juniors if enough riders in each have a go.

We are also looking for one more jugdge ( kiter and kite surfer)paid at $100 per day and NEEED help from volunteers and day to help with running Comp. The event is on the WAKSA list of events and if we get through Comp the results will be used to rank state riders.
Stay posted and have a great kite this arvo...

Judging Criteria
Contacio Kite Surfing Wave Comp Jan 20th 2007

The objective is to reward progressive kite surfing and introducing a reward system based on demonstrating variety of repertoire and linking maneuvers together, still in the critical sections of the wave, in a seamless flow of power and speed.

Scoring style at 2007 Contacio Kite wave competition

1. "A surfer must perform radical controlled maneuvers in the critical section of a wave with Speed, Power and Flow to maximize scoring potential.
2. Innovative / Progressive surfing as well as Variety of Repertoire ( maneuvers ),will be taken into consideration when rewarding points for waves ridden.
3. The surfer who executes this criteria with the maximum Degree of Difficulty and Commitment on the waves shall be rewarded with the higher scores."

Scale Base:
[ 0 - 2: Poor ] [ 2 - 4: Fair ] [ 4 - 6: Average ] [ 6 - 8: Good ] [ 8 - 10: Excellent ]

4. All kite riding styles are to be scored equally no matter the wave riding style/ board style or kite style or line length used.
5. Unstrapped riding will be rewarded as requiring higher skill.
2 riders ( 1x strapped- 1x unstrapped) achieve the same score in a heat. The unstrapped rider will win. In the event of a strapped rider getting a higher score in heat than unstrapped rider the highest score will win.

not really that fair that some request later heats and the ones that turn up on time get rewarded with the light wind early heats...

Hi Force

The main objective for us is to have some fun so if some can't get there early we would rather they came late than not at all .
Do see your point though but the weather does strange things and lately it has been dropping off late afternoon .

Ian Young and Cory Brown both finished in the top 16 last year so will be in the later rounds anyway .

The same format as last year as far as all disputes go .
Judges have final say and we will not enter into any arguments .
The main focus for the day is to compare styles and abilities and have some fun .

If there is any concern about being able to qualify for the nationals the only problem we have at the moment is that we don't have enough people going over to represent WA .

Good to see the juniors making the effort .

Now all we have to hope for is wind

P.S. please remember everybody must be a WAKSA member to compete .

cheers
Mike

Yes the top 16 get put into the second round so that the less experienced people don't come up against possibly the top riders in thier first heat .

Went through the results and as far I can tell these are the top 16

Marty
Dale
Andy C
Bevo
Ryland
Jake
Mike
Johnny keys
Nial
Ian Aus
Wayne
Dan Jones
Corey
Ian Young
Shannon
Adam Preston

Thats not exactly the result but because John Geyer won't be competing this year there was an extra spot.
If any of the listed names don't enter this year we can move up a few others .

So 10 hours after the first post the count stands
