Looking at buying Contra 16.5, I am 85 kg expecting to use 130-140 board, can anyone tell me what wind strength I can use it for and if it is a good kite handling wise, also whats the recon 2 bar like any good?

I got a contra 16.5 proto. She flys pretty good, Im ~83kg the bottom end for having fun is 13knots although I can get on a plane and loosing a little ground in about 11 (this is gusty bay wind). Can hold it down to about 18. This is on a flx 132.

Handling wise I think its good, has alot of depower, relaunching is not bad with recon, although the kite has to be pumped very hard (leading edge atleast 8psi).

If I was going to buy one now?

I probably wouldn't, unless your getting one second hand. New they are bloody expensive and realistically you won't get to much use out of it until next season. By that time early season 2006 kites will be out. Remember the contra came out mid 2004, so its getting on, nearly a year old.

I would look at a 17m machine, the 5line surefire setup looks very good and from all reports the machine is an awesome kite.

Nice kite, it likes the light wind and you will probably use it a fair bit over winter, thats unless your looking at buying new gear(then I would wait)

Otherwise pretty good kite, range from 12knts-18knts depending on your board size/shape.

Recon 2 bar is 100% on the first series, you can spin the bar and also place your hands in the middle now because cabrinha got rid of that big chunky bit of plastic.
