Hi Cappy,

Yep, I've kited Cooktown, IT ROCKS! Cooktown is the windiest place in Queensland and offers some unbelievably good kiting for those intrepid enough to visit.

We visited Archer Point and spent a few days there. Archer is about 15 minutes south of Cooktown. AP gets a steady 25-30 knots regularly in the winter and creates a sweet surf type wave from massive sea chop that then point breaks along a rocky point. It also has a long sandy spit running horizontal to the prevailing wind which gives you a buttery smooth run for several hundred metres.

It is a little bit croccy and has the odd Tiger Shark, being a river mouth and all, but well worth the risk. I give it 4.5-5 stars as a kiting destination. It is a little remote and you need to take in everything you need.

Good winds,

Good to hear from you Kitehard. Haven't seen you since Byron's ITC. Fantastic set-up in WA by the way!

Your dead right, Cooktown ROCKS as a kite destination! It's a virtually untouched paradise that those brave enough to get in with the "locals" will come back for more.

We have some great things planned. Stay tuned!!!
