Hi all.

Hope this is the correct place to start this thread.

I am very intrigued to know if people who do water sports in general want a way to track what lakes, rivers, etc that they have visited and keep a record of everywhere they have been. This would include such activites as, kayacking, canoying, kitesurfing, wake-boarding, water skiing, wind surfing, SUPing, and more. Just like running or biking the tech would map out the path people took through a lake or river. Furthermore, wouldn't it be cool to have some hardware to track your heart rate, distance, speed, wave pattern, stroke count, and much more??

I need some feedback for some market research, and I am hoping that I came to the right place!!

Let me know your thoughts!

Cheers everyone!

Would be kinda cool I guess???

It is something that a lot of running watches and running apps can already do with speeds courses, heart rates distances etc etc etc....

As a water specific app/device it would need to be really really really cheap or soooooo good with turn on/off features that you just couldn't live without to be viable in my opinion.

I rekon you'd also need a wrist band or similar that was downloadable to the app because I don't see a lot of water sports guys taking smart phones out in the water even in waterproof cases. In the case of surfing and kitesurfing you can have some pretty decent stacks as well which most smart phones wouldnt cope with. So the downloadable device would have to be super tuff!!!

All that said I rekon a lot of advanced guys who practice tricks and jumps etc... Would go to the same places they know to remove one of the unknowns (new places) when doing tricky stuff! From a kitesurfing perspective I personally go to the same 4-5 places for 11 months of the year and once a year or so when on holidays would go somewhere new. So for me it's a bit gimmicky although if it was cheap enough I would probably buy a gimmicky thing just for the hell of it!

Just my 2c and others may be really wrapt with your idea!

I already have an app for that -its called my memory, and it still works ok. Not too sure if it would be a seller apart from the gadget heads that will buy anything new on the market ,mainly due to the slick marketing and image it portrays in the advertising, much like the wind meters, you don't need to be Einsteen to guess if its kite able and what size kite to use.maybe the racers would be into it as they like all the info on speed, distance travelled etc.Anyway -good luck with it.By the way thats just from a kitesurfing perspective

Have a look at Live GPS - Kite Tracker , but can be used for a range of sports

Yes its an apple thingy for ur iphone but might provide answers to some of your Q's - but nobody is likely to share what they are up to - BIG BROTHER !! - you have to generate your own tracks !!

Yes it tracks where you have been , how fast etc - but as iphones are hydrophobic (fear of water) they need a good wet pac to survive your activity !!

LOL, that's funny, Thanks everyone, I accidentally posted this in kitesurfing under general thinking it was a general forum for the whole webbsite (later i saw "shooting the breeze"). Having said that, I'm sorry if i have upset anyone. Phones are definitely not the solution to any problem when out on the water (if you need it on you to track gps). The device would most likely be something like those fitness wearable's that are becoming popular with runners and bikers and such.

honestly I dont get all this need to trackn shiz I mean if you dont remember where you bin arnt you lost? if you want to really remember some thing take a picture, do you need a heart rate to remember the stoke you had, speed and distance maybe if your a professional athlete, isnt that what ya mates are for?

Ya, this is true. I'm thinking the wrong way I think...?!?! I feel like, if someone was going hiking, and hiking all over the place, different mountains and such, then it might be fun to remember where you had gone and what trails you had taken. But I'm not sure if the same concept applies to different oceans or lakes that you have been in. I was also thinking along the lines of kayaking and canoeing down rivers and stuff. But, of course with kitesurfing, most people go to their favorite spots and just have fun.
