Im travelling there in Sept for a holiday for about a week with my bro and old man and bro in law. Gonna be doing some fishing, diving, snorkelling, etc.

I dont spose anyone has any good recent photos, as I havent been since I was about 10. What happened with that resort? I reckon they should've built the damn thing, would've brought i revenue to fix the place up a bit.

So I just wanted some stories/photos/good times to get me amped to go. Maybe some good fishing holes? I read about Kayak fishing there recently in Western Angler too.

i went there last year in may, or maybe the year before.. had heaps of photos but they all got lost :( Don't remember seeing any massive resort thing, coral bay had a lot of built up stuff that looked a bit tourist but it was still ok, i slept on the beach on the other side of the airport strip. its still nice tho. the flys are nice!

Hey Infinidie,

Coral Bay is a small flea hole town whose one purpose in life is to fleece every remaining dollar from anyone who enters the area. There is nothing to do there that will not remove bucks from your wallet. Food is outrageous, even if you cook for yourself. Petrol is outrageous and in school holidays the crowds are unbelievable.

My advice is to drive up, bring your snorkeling gear, a boat and kiting gear. Drive north to the Nato park to snorkel in some of the bays up there between Yardie and Exmouth as I don't rate the snorkeling in Coral Bay compared to surrounding areas. Mostly killed off by the massive boat pollution in CB. The dunes are stomped by Quad bikes buzzing around everywhere (land versions of jet skis).

There is some amazing Coral but you will need a boat or drive north like I said. Exmouth is a better cheaper option especially if you camp in the Nato Park. I loathe the place personally because I know what is around within an hours radius of CB and the contrast is like black and white.

I don't mean to put you off, just explore possibilities a little further afield for a much better holiday. It really is beautiful in that part of the world and one of my favourite spots to visit and the fishing is great! We speared the Ningaloo Reef further South and it was very good, always had fish on the plate.

Have a good time and good winds,

Sorry mate,

We stayed 45 minutes away in Paradise costing $50 a week, used to go into Coral Bay for supplies and a shower once a week. Dreaded it. But you're right, the pub is great, They do a fantastic steak and chips which hits the spot after a few weeks of fish every night.

The staff in the bottlo are good too. And to be perfectly fair, I liked the bread shop for a coffee and a cake. Other than that, I prefer my secret spot every day of the week. I'd tell you where it is, but I'd have to kill everyone who reads this thread. [}:)]

Good winds,

Okey dokey kitehard point taken. But seeing as it was a present for my old man's birthday from my bro and me to pay for the cabin we might as well take it in the cheek this time.

I have been a couple times myself but not anytime recently and not since this resort business (or lack thereof). Last time I went was...2003. no. 2002.

I was more kind ahoping for things like junglist said about their fave spots and any secrets they wish to divulge.

Oh and so it is good for Kitesurfing? I know it has massive flatland area that would lend well to some skimboarding but I cant recall winds, and I do recall a lot of boats @ anchor in the bay....a lot!

So if anyone's kited it let us know and what gear to bring? cheers for the reply lads.
Blue Skies!

You should get plenty of wind in sept (8-12m) just keep away from the bay as they don't like swimmers and kites and boats together. Besides that its not that good anyway.

went there after a couple of weeks in the national park of exmouth in 06 to get have a couple of nights out, this is what we saw. note the caption though, no kiting here, it is a shark nursery!
with a backpackers at one end of the beach and pub at the other we loved it. admittedly we had camp food left over o didn't need to pay heaps on food and I knew some locals so didn't need to pay camping, but anyway, good parties, average snorkeling and lots of sun
