The recent threads about kiting with music on waterproof MP3 players reminded me of a previous life heavily into the electronica (doof-doof) - when mixed with skiing in NZ made an epic mix.

Picture Treble Cone on a powder day with Darude's Sandstorm pumping thru the buds....

Kiting is different though - just love being on the water and hearing nothing except the excited hollering of your mates as they pull off a trick - or just the steady burble of the water sheeting out the back of the board.

Kiting is a lot closer to zen than downhill skiing in my book & a lot more sociable

Point taken about the serenity of kiteboarding, and I've already had a discussion with a longboarder mate who told me where I could stick my new ipod and its waterproof casing, but I must say that cruising around and out past the backline the other day listening to Jimi Hendrix playing Castles Made of Sand was also quite enjoyable. The Zephyr Song is also a good one for kiting when you're popping big floaty airs off the groundswell coming through.

These 'fish', Mr. gruezi, are they talking to you? What do they say to you Mr. gruezi? Do they talk to you often?

Perhaps we should try a different approach, Mr. gruezi. Can you tell me what sort of relationship you have with your parents...

Hey ickites,

check out www1.freestyleaudio.com/?tm=1 their mp3 players are pretty good. Better sound than others I have tried and good battery life.

Greenpat's right, nothing better than being out there listening to Hendrix or the Doors to get you trying new moves

The casing for my ipod mini is pretty solid. It's H2O Audio brand and the earpieces came out a couple of times on a recent kiting holiday. Maybe you could tape them to your head rugby style and look like a total ****er. Me I'm happy to stop and put them back in. It was only on the heaviest wipeouts.

ZAR1500. Say about AUD300 for the casing alone. Pretty expensive I know, but when you weigh up priorities... My three favourite sports are all on the water, and I could get back into swimming laps as fitness with renewed vigour too, not to mention could also be a tad safer for taking the ipod snowboarding. I don't know if there is a scaling factor that should be applied to buying in South Africa. I know kites and boards there are about 0.75 the price as in Australia.

I'm not in the leagues of RYRY, Jake or any of the guys you would put next to them... but I'm no kook either

I purchased a 256 meg Oregon Scientific MP3 that is completely water proof in it's own housing, it's the size of a match box !. I've had it for just over a year now and it's going strong. It plugs into my laptop and I can download in seconds...

The ear plugs come with those little rubber end thingys on them to hold them in... I wont lie to you, when you go hard they do sometimes comes out, but it's no biggy. I've heard you can get a headband neopreme thingymagig to hold them in but it dont look KooL

But riding with toons is

I purchased mine at the windshack, Alberto is a sponsor of this forum and I'm sure he'l do anyone a fantastic deal on one...

oh yeah from memory I think it cost me $250 ?

The little voices in my head told me I needed waterproof music of my own after the first time I demoed it at the cableski park. I went straight into the shop there, returned the demo unit and bought a casing. Had to go buy the ipod to go with it later in the week. Possible contributing factor to high price, not shopping around at all. The ipod cost R2200 for a mini with 6gb, what do they go for in Australia? Might be a good comparison for the casing.

It's nice having 6gb space though, I think that's where ipods stand out against others. Lots and lots and lots of music.

i still don't get it.

if you kite to music, does it mean that you can't afford a car stereo?

does your mother/wife/girlfriend/sister/daughter/small children not let you play your favourite music at home?

is your workplace devoid of music?

kitings pretty good without music.

for all other occasions....apply music.
