Hi All,
I'm flying over to Europe and will be driving down the entire coast of Croatia around the end of June so I'm just after some advice about locations that could have the best and most reliant wind around this time.
Would it be the north around Medulin/Premantura or the south Ploce/Neretva that has the most consistant Maestral blowing and +18knots?

Has anyone been to Korcula around this time?

I was in Bol in June 2003 which had good wind but we only had about 4 out of 10 days kitable wind. I might hop over there again but I'm just wondering if anyone has better advice.

Gday Jev,
I lived in Croatia for a year in 2005, its an amazing place.
I spent the summer sailing around the Dalmation islands from the Kornati group
in the north down to Dubrovnic in the south.
Generally the med is a big flat windless lake in summer and all the Euro's head to the water for their holidays.
There is a few natural wind tunnels that can provide some breeze coming off the mountains, the main one being the Pelusach penisular/ Korcular island . As you mentioned Bol is another haunt for some wind but be prepared for the masses.
Enjoy..

I drove from Split to Dubrovnik in my Kombi, via all the islands (using the ferries) in 2008.

To be honest, there are crap all good kiting locations. Croatia springs out of the Adriatic nice and steep and there aren't nice beaches to launch from. Any beaches that exist will be full of people.

At Bol you have that amazing famous beach Zlatni Rat but in June it's going to be packed and I remember there being no kitesurf signs out.

The straight between Orebic and Korcula is insanely busy with all sorts of boats out. It's just freaking scary and you have to launch standing in the water. There is a windsurf spot but they don't like kitesurfers there.

If you want to kite, go to the Greek Islands - Naxos is my pick.

Croatia is awesome though and I had a great time there. I suggest you leave your car at a campsite near Ploce for a couple of days and catch the train up to Mostar and Sarejevo - awesome experience!

Cheers for the info guys.
They do get a thermal wind the Maestral blowing a nice days, but it is about finding good wind tunnels where you can launch from that's not packed with swimmers.
I'm taking my kite gear as I'll be driving quit a bit around. Starting in Switzerland, visiting family and friends, then head up to Lake Silvaplana, then to Lake Como and Lake Garda in Italy which should have good wind then all the way down to Dubrovnik. Will be diving and chilling and hoping to get some kiting in on the way.

Hey lostinlondon, there is apparently a flat water spot just a few k's south of Ploce close to the river mouth of the river Neretva. Have you been there and is it worth it? Yes, Sarajevo and Mostar are on the plan as well but I need to do it in the car as I'm heading up that way back to cheese-land with a few more stops along the way.
I guess I'll be diving more in Croatia than kiting.

Yep, I was in Bol x 2 summers ago, 10 days of waiting and just 15 minutes of kiting. I think Croatia is superbly stunning for big yachts and sailing, but kiting, nope, give it a miss. Or, go to Vassiliki in Greece. Enjoy!

I beg to differ. I have kited in Croatia several times in Viganj and had an great time. Last year I was there for 3 weeks in Aug and only had 4 non kiteable days. I had a 9 and 12 and weigh 80kg. Viganj also hosts a Windsurfing competition in July that attracts lots of European competitors. Wind normally comes in by about 12 and you can kite up to about 7pm. Wind strength was between 12 and 23knots most of the time 18-20. I have been there other times when it was not this good.
Launch and land area is pretty small at the point but once you are out on the water there is loads of room. There is lots of cheap places to stay as well. Viganj and Perna get more wind then Bol.
If you want any more info feel free to get in touch with me.
