Dan Anderson won the Juniors (well dur) and got second in the open division at the nationals!
Apparently he lost an early heat and had to go thru 8 heats in a row to get back into contention! He came second by a point (or something). He said one more back loop would have given him the win! d'oh
He was saying that they were scored 2 points for a handle pass, 1 point for a back loop, 1.5 points for a one footer etc etc (don't quote me on these exact points). Damn! Two backloops == a handle pass?!?! I don't think so!
Anyway, he'll be back soon to explain everything better. In the mean time I'm sure he'd like to thank his sponsors and employers!! (I won't mention them because that might be considered advertising :) ).
Congrats dan!

The judging followed the aksa guide lines but there was a impression mark as well. This meant a person that did two amazing handle passes = 4points would beat a guy that did 10 back rolls + 10 foward rolls=20points. To get the best score you had to do everything

Dan congrats on a huge contest. Can you give the sea breeze regulars a run down on the comp from your view point. Maybe wind conditions, heats, new moves, what blew your mind, maybe nothing did, any thing about the week. How did you lose a heat and pop up as a contendor at the end. I'm sure every one would be interested. I read a few little things on kite forum , but it is mostley a slag-fest about the Slingshot team, and vise-versa.

P.S watch your arse Dan , I've just about nailed a kite loop with back loop, I could be a contendor.... or did that kite Loop nail me...

Hey!!!! What about a congrats to Jake Gordon! He only lost one heat before coming into the final two man heat with Dan. Final place forth....not bad for his second comp in Oz!

yep, congratuations to jake as well! the only reason I didn't mention him is because I didn't know where he came! One round out of the finals is huge. Good to know the WA level is up there with the rest of Aus.
And yeah dan, write an article/story about the trip. would be interesting.

How can we not breed champions in WA? It's windy everyday in comparison to anywhere else. Unfair advantage.

The comp was a double elimination system meaning that all competitors got two chances to win the final for more details go to the aksa website. As far as organistation it was **** the rules on leashes were not enforced(their are pics of people kiting with no leash), there was no trophys or prizes given out(they are ment to be sent out to us) i cant really see were the $150 entrey fee went. As far as conditions it was ok. Cronella was the event site and we scored 2 days of side of gusty winds but with good waves and the last day was onshoreish i used kites from 10mGXRs to 17.5m phiniox. It was awsome kiting with jake in the final as we were both having fun and hooting at each other. Jake lost his board which i returned for him and in a later heat i lost my board and jake did the same for me. This is is how kiting should be and it showed the rest of australia the attiude towards the sport that W.A kiters have.

Congrat's Dan, sounds like you and the rest of the West Aussie team put in a top effort in an event run with the same loose attitude to safety as the 2003 Nationals.I thought those Insane Sports guys(event directors)would have learned from last years debacle. Hopefully the 2005 West Coast event will have the same approach to safety demonstrated in 2003 Geraldton Blast.

Surely elite kiters deserve better prize money as well? Winning open division would hardly cover air fare from WA. I know that most kiters do these comps for the love of the sport but do so at considerable expense to themselves. Sponsors will have to try and do a little better!

Perhaps because this was the National Titles they were competing for the "title" of Australian Champion, not so much the actual prizemoney as in other events. Still pretty weak tho.
