Hey Peeps,
Over the last week or so a few people including myself have noticed a new trick starting to be performed at various beaches in Perth (Scarborough and Pinnaroo mainly). The art of walking your kite up the beach pathway to the car park whilst the kite is still flying.
I know the wind hasn't been too strong and the kites are small, and ... blah blah blah, but the people performing this trick are hooked in and the path is only about 12 feet wide. If your kite luffs, or you get a good gust when you're off balance, there's gonna be trouble! The wind in this part of the beach is not the steadiest wind in the area.
I know that some of these new tricksters are talented riders and have flown kites for ages, the problem is, with so many newbies at the beach now and Euros by the truckloads who haven't been here before, it sets a dangerous example for others who are less skilled to follow.
This also goes out to a very well known and respected WA kiter who threaded their kite between the trees at Pinaroo into the carpark. C'mon, bad example before the newbs at Pinnaroo!
All we need is one good gust or a bad luffing in the carpark to create a serious accident and the accesss to our beloved beaches could be in jeopardy, especially if it makes the newspapers or worse still ACA or the TV news.
C'mon everyone, a little sand on your kite is not worth jeopardizing your health and our rights to use the beach. Newbies and Euros are so impressionable this time of year!
I don't wanna start a bun fight, just a change of behaviour before it gets out of hand. Thanks for your understanding.
Luv yas all, good winds,
