I've been nearby (brampton, hamilton and dunk islands) and we had 30+knot winds on two of the five days we stayed at brampton and fairly strong wind every other day (20knotsish) . Personally I would, usually those islands have awesomely large sandbanks and due to it being an island there is always a side with a crosswind, although Im not sure how big daydream is? :S

Thats the sports and recreation focused island isnt it?

Then again I am a noob , but I definantly know that the wind up there can be nice and feirce at times

hi

I use to work in water sports at DD Island, the tides are massive up there and the Island is 1km long including a jetty on one side and small marina on the other.
So I guess if you have the tide going the right way you might have a shot. If you can make it out to Whitehaven you'll probably have ahve more fun tho.

ps. there are NO sand banks!
NO sand on the beach at all, only CORAL. Unless they shipped some since I was there like they do at Hamilton Is.

i was there last year and a guy called " steve" is in charge of the activities up there. He works near the outdoor cinema in a shack at the south end.
He kites and will point you into the right direction.

Hi rusty7
i just spent the last 5 months in the whitsundays and kited Daydream 6 times while there. Each time was on the mermaid beach side but you MUST have the tide against wind . the local watersports guy sometimes kites on the southwestern side of the island.
Kiting at whitehaven is overrated , it is also now against the law! The whole beach has been declared a NO WATERSPORTS area by the national parks assc but the have not widely publicesed this.
The island is a great place to take the family .
The strong southeasterly winds that make north Qld a great place to kite are not generaly around at the xmas time of year.
cheers

The sand spit off Langford Is is also a great spot to consider had two days kiting off it last month. About 20 -30min East across whitsuday passage from Daydream, directly in front of Hayman Is.
Keep and eye on the Tides
