A great opportunity lost to join the 21st century.
How about just joining the 20th century?
Everywhere I have lived, NZ, Victoria, NSW, UK have daylight savings. The UK is brilliant, I have been out at 930pm midsummer and the sun still hasn't set!
I can understand northern WA not wanting or needing it, it doesn't make a difference when you get close to the equator. Just have big signs on the major highways where the time changes from DLS to non DLS!
There are so many aspects of the economy that benefit from it... Tourism, restaurants, sport that I can't see how it didn't go through, unless it was non-compulsory to vote.
I bet a lot of people who would have voted yes (ex pats from the UK, who seem to be in WA in droves) weren't able to do so (not eligible), which is a blow to DLS....
Hopefully you get some new pollies in with the stones to legislate it without having to resort to a referendum...
