Aloha group.. .
I've been kiting in Hawaii for many years, but just started kiting in Coffs Harbour.. We had a protected bay where we kited in Kailua, but here every beach has nice, big surf waves where you launch from..
I went out yesterday and kept trying to go out in between sets, but kept getting whacked by waves..
How do others deal with this? I'm thinking I have to body drag out beyond the waves and then go.. I've never had to do that, so it causes me to be a bit sketchy as the waves are quite good in size...

Any ideas would be appreciated or even people in the Coffs area that use the same beaches on what you do...

Thanks a million..
Aloha for now
Gary

With the whitewater. load your board up and release just before you hit it and lean back and you should just float over.. with the pitching ( almost breaking ) waves you can either bear off a bit till you find a section in the wave that's not so heavy and pull hard up wind and over the wave. or if your riding a twin tip you can just ride at the wave with pace and crouch into a ball and you will just punch through (not recommended on a surfboard) and if the wave is just to heavy turn. around and try again.. if the wind is directly onshore it can sometimes be a bit tricky especially if you are slightly underpowered.. anyway just keep at it because riding waves is such good fun and its really not that hard..and if everything goes south you just get washed up on the beach..hope this helps.l

Thanks for the advice...
The winds were pretty much onshore the other day, which was causing some problems for me... I'll wait till they finally get side/onshore and give it another go..
I do enjoy riding waves.. I'm just used to going out to the waves, not launching in them... I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually..

Thanks again for the advice

Come up to Flattop(hearns lake) between Sandy beach and woolgoolga.Good spot to get use to waves. Its usually fairly flat in the corner and gets bigger as you get down the beach.Cross/off shore in NE and SE on the other side.Way out of controll at the moment though.Had a look today, white wash all the way out to the horizon
Im going to have a look in the harbour itself tomorrow, getting desperate, will be hell gusty but keen to get wet.
