With 4 car break-ins of my own plus a set of driving lights in the past 18 months - total stolen over $4000 - total repair bill over $2000 - I'm ready to take ANY steps to catch ; maim ; whatever the *****ers very seriously.

I reckon you could have had someone sitting in the car looking after it and the dickheads would still break in. When it's young kids doing it, a scare will probably keep em away, but when its 30yo coke-heads who think they are invincible, it gets a bit tricky.
