and other newcastle beaches and for that matter any beach any where

this is an email sent out to Newcastle Kiteboarders

"Hi Everyone

A couple of irresponsible kite surfers have repeatedly kite surfed dangereously close to swimmers at Dixon Park and ignored requests by the lifesaver's to maintain safe distances.

NSW Martime Authority and Newcastle Council and are now wanting to erect signs at Dixon Park and have "no go' zones for kitesurfing.

When kite surfing please use common sense and keep safe distances of 30 metres from swimmers, surfers and other beach users.

Please spread the word and encourage everyone to use common sense and keep safe distances from swimmers and other water users when kite surfing. If we don't we will be banned from the beach.

This is serious. Inform your mates and forward this email. More importantly if you see someone doing the wrong thing, tell them to get their act together or go home because we don't want to lose the right to use our beaches.

For safe kite surfing guidelines see:

Morgan "

I thought i should add a tip for riding at Dicko in a southerly .SSW wind is the best it is more cross shore and is similar to riding Nobby in NE .As it goes around to the S and then the SE the wind generally drops as well and holding ground and going upwind becomes more difficult plus the swell is pushing you right onto the beach .You might think that there is plenty of room between you and grief and suddenly your on it.Don't try to hold your ground and try and sneak just upwind of the flags .it generally won't work ,stay well outside and go in downwind of the flags and walk back up .All will be much happier

I am one of the irresponsible kite surfers at dixon park that day. I will admit we did come close to surfers on a couple of occasions. It was missjudgment on our behalf. We thought the wind was stronger and we could get up wind. As soon as we heard the warning on the P.A we put our kites down and spoke with the lifegaurds. I would advise that if a beach is to crowded and someone is unsure of the conditions to go somwhere else. For me and my friend, it will not happen again.

A big thanks to those who have helped spread the word (particularly coming in and saying gday to arrivals at the beach and giving the skinny )A big thanks to Terry train driver in particular who has done a stellar job on the beach spreading the word.this thanks is personal and I for one appreciate it becasue I and others like riding on our local beaches, and have kept them open for years now ,with vigilance and co operation with council and waterways .

there is still work to be done .i am sure that all will agree that we all like our local spots we ALL need to take ownership of the problem and make sure we spread the word and don't just stand by and watch reckless or ignorant behaviour(even if the person is experienced and has been around for ages ) ,don't wait for someone else like Terry to say something (if you see something that is not within the guidelines ) .REMEMBER monkey see monkey do(noobs see people go out with not much room to spare upwind of flags and then do the same with dire consequences) .You might think you have the experience to go closer than recommended guidelines but as I saw yesterday one wipeout riding doing one turn on a wave too many and before you know it your way too close ,or worse you drop your kite on people.
Please pass the word that Dicko is not a good spot for beginners in southerlies. the wind is very onshore plus there is usually a sweep and a big push down the beach by the waves, plus there are lots of other water and beach users .Please please please no teaching of mates who don't know how to fly a kite .No room for error and lots of people on the beach .One false move and we are all history.

this is serious .We are being watched closely by lifeguards and waterways on the beach and via cams .Not only could we be banned but you could have your gear confiscated(no not by me or Terry ,we are not the cops ,just guys who are trying to give a heads up).BTW if anyone thiks this is a problem mainly with noobs it isn't .it is experienced riders and we are on notice

Just a reminder that Council and Waterways have given us the opportunity again to self regulate .It might dint your ego a bit if one of your co kiters gives you a friendly reminder that you might be pushing the friendship with waterways and the lifeguards ,somethjing to bear in mind is that the alterantive is this ....

NO KITESURFING IN THIS AREA (if waterways and council have to regulate) ah and that means all NCC beaches .Do you really want to go down in history as the dude that had it banned.i'd guess a very unpopular title .Lifeguards are pretty busy looking after swimmers and other beach users but offenders will be given the 3 strikes and your out (3rd strike is you have your gear confiscated and told that you are not welcome at that beach)

and btw the people who care enough to say something to keep our beaches safe and open don't get off on being a beach nazi.

Another trouble spot is in the southern corner of nobbys down near the car park in NE winds .the beach hooks around and as a result the wind and waves are more onshore plus there is a sweep , if youre grovelling out before you know it your in the flags .This can happen to the best of us .if it aint happenin turn back to shore and walk futher up the beach

And if you don't think they will ban a minority sport with relativley few people involved, think again.

This is the same council that has banned smoking at all council controlled facilities, beaches, sporting ovals etc.

If they got that passed at a metting, It would only take the stroke of a pen & "all those in favour raise your hands" and she's all gone.
