Hi all,

Just wanted to have a bit of a chat about downwinders - had a great weekend here in Mackay parked one car 4 k's down wind of the other one - a very lame down winder distance wise but it was a great way to finish up our 4 hour sess - cruising down the beach a few kays no stress. Mind you we went about 4 kays up wind I guess to City Beach and beyond before heading back so definitely covered some ground.

So yeah just was interested in People's down winder experiences - what's the longest distances people have travelled etc? Years ago when I had my first lesson the instructer reckoned he was thinking about kiting from Byron to the Gold coast - big south easter - $400 in the pocket for a hotel on the way and a water proof mobile phone case... Madness!

Any horrer stories? i'd hate to break something in the middle of nowhere goes to show never go alone or cover big open areas...

One of the fellas I kite with had a watch style gps for awhile until he lost it and he reckoned in a normal 2+ hour session you cover about 50 kilometres. My wife and I have stayed at Rainbow a few times and I've kited out the front of the SLSC for a bit then down winded to Inskip. Great fun. It's great not worrying about having to stay upwind!

Cheers

My bad I didn't see that thread - but I'll bet there's dozens of pics from other forum members of epic down winders. It'd be great to share locations, pics etc of down winder experiences.

cheers
