It's a kiting myth.

I've ridden with crossed-up lines for freakin years and I've never noticed any wear.

However, if you tangle up with another kiter you might experience kite-burn.

That's when lines rub together and cause singeing.

Sometimes newbies worry about crossed-up lines after they've thrown a backie.

My advice is to spin the bar first before throwing a backie.

Then your lines will be uncrossed when you land the backie.

But remember, don't spin your bar the wrong way, ok.

I always thought the rule was "no crossing swords" but Waveslave may dispute that one?

At all times when you decide to back/front roll. You must loop the kite too. No line wear!

Flagging to a single line won't work with multiple twists in the front lines.
Newbies are often shocked to see their kite-bar jam up in the crossed-up lines after they have pulled the QR.
The death-leash then becomes a tow-rope that drags you across the bitumen carpark behind a psycho-looping bag.

this is why the flagging system where the kite flags to both front lines(employed by the likes of cabrinha,f-one, griffin and so on) is so safe. The swivel is above the flagging stopper so twists become a non issue.

my experience is opposite to this. all my lines show wear and tear at the section were they loop together. they get fluffy.

but i like to do all sorts or loops in every session mayeb as much as 20-30. so perhaps my wear and tear is alot higher than an occasional looper.

Unless your doing handlepasses, there is no reason whatsoever to attach your leash behind your back. Most of us have grown up with behind the back, and seen one or two massive drags and a guy sinking cause he doesnt know where the release is.. Most harnesses dont have an adequate attachment, you have to make your own.
In waves i always wear it at the front, waves pull hard.

Please don't use the words 'kite' and 'safe' in the same sentence. ^^^

These terms are mutually exclusive.

'Flagging' a kite off two front lines isn't actually flagging ...

It's simply depowering it, somewhat.

I'd like to know how one goes about a self-rescue out in the open ocean in nukewind by 'flagging' off two lines ?
