dunno IF this has been posted before ... anyway, pretty cool I reckon

earth.nullschool.net/


click on a spot - change the km/h to kn (knots) and away ya go ... use your mouse and scroller to cruise around, in & out ...

How do you tell what the colours mean? Is there a range somewhere to know what KNOTS to expect?

just click on the spot your looking at it will give you a wind speed.

Zoom in/out - use your scroll thingo on your mouse (don't think it can be done on a lappy)

just click with your mouse on yr location and a green circle comes up ... then it will show wind direction in degrees and change from km/h to kn (knots)

also clicking on 'earth' gives you more options (Height - set at 1000 is s'posed to be 100mtrs up ... Control - by clicking the arrow furthest right gives you next days forecast)

hey if you want to see strong wind have a look at the 250 Hpa wind level- shows the jet stream wind travelling around the world - simply awesome!! I know we don't kite in the jet stream but I wonder how it affects what we get wind and weather wise here on ground - yeah thinking too much but some of the northern hemisphere jet stream is currently ticking alone at 98 knots!! - drag out the 1/2 m kite!!!

apparently a lot of the forecasting done is based on what the jet stream is doing.
