Has anyone come up with kiting themed icons/pins for their placemarkers yet?

Hey anton- Yeah I've just done some fiddling around and found how u can do that. When you go to 'Add Placemark' Type in the name you want and there is a button that says 'NONE' next to your location name. Press that as shown in the foloing link

After that a whole pile of other ics will appear. Press the cutom button on the buttom as shown in the following image.Select the location of the image. It will resize it and even if you creaate a transparent GIF, it will not work. [url Any jpg will work from what I have found.. All the best mate. Hope that helped.

I've had probs with zooming in on some beaches. Like cronulla in Sydney it is all blured and wont zoom a detailed image. Anyone else had that happen? Maybe I need to update the version I downloaded? Cheers Uber

anyone spotted a kitesurfer on google satellite images or google earth yet? Surely a big kite would show up with a kiteboard wake. I been lookin, but so far no luck. So addictive...

The images with good resolution are orthophotos - taken from an aircraft. Most Australian orthophotos on GE/Keyhole are old and will predate kiteboarding.

Where orthophotos are not available, satellite imagery is used. The most commonly used are also old from the French Spot platform. In some cases the monochrome Spot images are enhanced with colour information from the old Landsat7 platform. Resolution is about 30m.

You can see 7 kiteboarders at The Gorge, Hood River, Oregon. This is a recent and good quality air photo.

The photo's of Brisbane are less than 3 years old, as you can see the floating board walk and Goodwill Bridge that are recent additions to this area, you can see cars on the roads, so resolution is more like 1 m2. Lots of other areas around Australia, and cities like London, Paris, Amsterdam are this quality too. Righteo, I'm off to look at The Gorge.
