The only reason surfing doesn't have this problem is because if someone doesn't do the right thing, i.e not adhering to surfing etiquette, they will end up with a broken face. People tend to respond very well to violence. The only real option (other than smacking someone in the snoz)

So if some one gets in your way and you confront him out of the water, suddenly his bigger than you or even more aggressive, you could be the one on the receiving end of it and then who is at fault.
I've been up and down this coast for 40 years and have never been confronted as a simple sorry mate will do.
Also as i have said before never pick on some one you don't know, as next time you go to you spot of choice he has 6 mate waiting for you so were will it end.
