For the record (books?) after dark my kite apparently got snagged on a cray pot off Mullaloo.
The next morning a vessel sailing from Hillarys to Jurien Bay came accross it and in the process of untangling it ended up cutting the craypot line.

That Friday I was at dinner for a friend's birthday when another friend mentioned that he had had a good week working in Jurien and how about the lucky find his colleagues had made on their way up.

It took a few weeks to make contact, convince them it was mine, agree on a reqard of $100 to be spent on beer between the finder and the boat's skipper, but I finally got it back, bar lines and all.

Moral(s) of the story:
1. double check that your leash is on securely
2. put your name and phone number on all your gear in case it gets away from you
3. sometimes you just get lucky
