I am having trouble finding suitable glasses (I need them to be prescription) that are going to be really suitable for Kitesurfing. I have been to my optometrist but they are not sure of which way I should go glasses or goggles because I need something that is going to protect my eyes from the sun but are still going to be durable enough. Just wondering if anyone else who wears glasses can help me out please as I am not sure which way I should go?

Glenn Poulton at Golden Beach Optometrists can organise presciption lenses into a "Dirty Dog style" strap on sunnies.

My GF wears her prescription sunnies when she kites. Ties them on with a piece of hydro-line, with the other end tied to her harness or wettie zip or whatever. They come off in a wipeout, but at least they don't get lost.

I use SeaSpecs, which I'm pretty sure you can get in prescription if you want (don't quote me on that though). I've never had them come off yet, even in some wipeouts that were big enough for me to have to call it a day afterwards!

Cool, Ta guys, I will check it out. My Optom is from Brisbane and she is quite old so I don't think she really understood what I was asking for.

Go to GB Optomotrists and ask for what you want. Things are never too much trouble for them.

You can order prescription Seaspecs directly from Seaspecs themselves for US$200 plus about $20 for shipping. It takes 2 weeks to make and they are designed to be durable enough for kiting. If you are worried about it coming off your head, wear a helmet or add a keychain float to the strap.

All you need to do is send them your prescription and they'll make them up for you. Check out http://www.seaspecs.com/html/FAQ.html

I know of quite a few people who have ordered from them and are very happy with the results.

Oakely waterjackets with prescription in them, plus a gath helmet over the top - they'll never come off. Used this method for surf and kiteboarding last 3 years, bulletproof through the biggest wipeouts.

and they'll stop you getting pterigia on the eyes....

ps. check the search function for this topic....I reckon it has come up 4-5 times in the last 18 months

Just some feedback on the prescription Seaspecs I ordered. They were delivered today and the results with the prescription lens are very impressive, very little distortion (i have bad eyes so I expected a lot given the curvature of the lens).

To put the order process into perspective, I ordered on the 30th October, I received a mail the next day confirming my order and giving me details of the paypal payment. (I didn't want to use my credit card so I specifically asked to use paypal)

Order was shipped on the 8th November and delivered today so that makes 2 weeks and 1 day from date of order to delivering including making up the lenses for me. For anyone looking at prescription sunnies, that is pretty good service as far as I am concerned.
