finally got some dosh for a new 16 metre mach 3, and this is what i think.
construcion is good, with 2 attachment points on all 4 line connectors, bladder rear tips are reinforced nicely aswell as the kite trailing edge , and tip to second in bladder in is megga reinforced,(not that i had any probs with the last model ripping in that area), but good that they're making it stronger. main bladder is huge compared to last model, there's also 9 inflatable batterns with outer two having non return valves. extra bladders seem to make re-launch a lot easier, but also seem to shape the trailing edge " progressively" in jumps or power ups.
I did wet myself when the bar with leash free safety system finally arrived in county though,it's got a small carbon fibre black and white rubber covered bar, with a hole in the centre of the carbon bit, and the front line rope passing though covered in clear heavy duty plastic, same as previous modles. Chicken loop has a stainless unlimited swivel built in which was very nice to see.But this kite uses the chicken loop as the safety , you punch the bar away from you, and it unhooks a pin holding the main lined on, bar then rides out approx 3 feet from chicken loop, before riding up one of the front linesanother 3 feet where it hits a built in stopper
there is also a quick release on both chicken loops
depower system also kicks ass, with a course ajustment, the furtest from the chicken loop, and a closer fine tuner, with two tags, one pulling lines in and the other pulls it out, action is pulling towards you for either depower or powering up which is cool, used to have to pull it away from you for power up, no multi attatchment point on centre line due to second "course" line adjuster being there, and i can JUST reach it, and wait.. there are approx 4" line adjusters on the trailing edge lines at the bar, same style as the centre one but minni. havn't had to use them yet. and havn't tried the safety in stong winds yet.
Lines are 24 metres for wave riding with a 3m extension bits for normal use included, comes with dual action aluminium shaft pump too
kite has LOTs of power, and sits very "closed" for a sixteen, if you pull back on the bar with it flying at round 10, it falls back a bit, but doesnt seem to open and stall if you follow it as much as the others do, and you can ride a lot further downwind, like go about40 degrees downwind with bar pulled in, and kite stationary, which feels wrong, but is cool fun when you get used to it,
went out in a steady 10-13 kts, and it was makeing good power,
jumps are big and floaty, but i did manage to do a full S post screwing up a kiteloop and pulling the wrong bar and it went from twelve oclock : 180 right followed by 180 left, and kite turned quick enough to miss water.
went out later in 17-20 kts, and
you don't want to get it in it's comfortable speed zone, unless you way 90 kgs plus with that wind i recon.
overall, awesome bar and leash system, kite has a lot more pull then previous model and any other 16 ive tryed (cabrina, north,)but looses some top end depower as a result, the mach 2 has massive top end, and is one of the best allround ive found, so I'd reccomend the 16m mach 3 as a light and moderate wind master below 20 kts , but get something with more depower like a Mach2 12 vice mach 3, or some other brand for 20+ kts , then you don't need 3 different kites
