Hey all,

I am thinking about going to Fiji in a week or two, i have read through the forums a bit as see alot of people say you need a boat to kite there. Is a boat essential? and if so are there daily kiteboarding trips to where ever you need to go?

Thanks.

Greg

YES.

and if you're a surfer there is a adjunct finish to the trip.
a couple of days based on a boat at Wilkes passage.

I think I spelt 'Wilkes" correct.

check out the videos at bottom of this link page. also the reef run was done along the reef that has a couple of puffy clouds over it on the satellite view(Right side bottom)

mates have kited Namotu island, sounds good for kiting waves.
Ive kited nananu'ira island, good spot( flatish water) but again you have to be staying on the island, but it is cheap.

call Ian from surf safaris fiji and he will help you out with locations. He'll even drive you there and back for 120 a day( thats what i paid 12 months ago).
he is well spoken(english speaking) and good fun.
If you can't find his number or contact details, he is a good friend of Glen Hooper at cross shore kiteboarding Forster.

Thanks,
Stab it for me.

Hey Cliff, hopefully with is not old news for you. Fiji and more importantly the "Coral coast" holds some great options for Kiting. Sure there are options around the Mamanuccas Is but expect to pay top dollar. My advise is cruise down toward the Sigatoga area as there are heaps of places to stay and your kite options are flat and surf. Wind will not be a problem. As mentioned earlier, Ian Thompson is good with info but I would expect that he is at his Kadavu pad. That is where you should go, or save that one for your next trip. It is easy to find Ian, try goggle, Ian Thompson, fiji, sail surf.
Fiji is very easy to do on any budget. Bula.

Unless Tony knows something I don't I couldn't disagree more with regards to the comments made on the Coral Coast and Sigatoka. My views are here:

I don't think it's a particularly budget destination either. But, everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

Hey Fozzy, sounds like we are into different trips here. No offence, but I come from a surfing background and have over a a dozen trips over the years. So, my advise to "cliffy" comes from that angle. I can sense your frustration if wanted only flat water and blow your tits off wind, everyday. Seems that you may need to get into the surf to toughen yourself up. Sorry, some poor humour intended there... However, if you look closer and check out some guide books, there IS some budget accommodation south of Nadi, toward the "coral coast". We all have different requirements when it comes to our own style of fun, but hey, there is plenty of wind and waves in Fiji. It's there, go and explore...

I think you're right in one regard, that was a poor attempt at humour. Other than that we'll agree to disagree.

Coral Coast is the best place to head, The south is much better than up the North ends of the island around Nanu Rai

Look for a place called Club Masa, not much in the way of accomdation around the area but some of the best beach breaking waves in FIJI,

blew dogs off chains when we were there last year. 25++ knots each day , lit on 7m kites in August. Its easy to Stay at the Shangrila and catch a taxi each day from there, about 20 minutes drive from Shangrila.

I am going Fiji, Malolo Lai Lai ( in the Mamanuca Island group), going to stay at Lomani Island Resort.

Going to stay there for 1-3 months.

Anybody been kiting there?

What kite size to bring?
And kite surf board? or just Twin tip?

Something that I should specially think of when going there?

Fiji!!! Grouse spot and its just kicking in this time of year also! Head to Nananui-Ra island. It will cost you about $90 for a taxi to wellington wharf, then get a lift over in a boat. There is a few places to stay, back packers and units. you can get a unit that sleeps about 6 at Charlies for about $45 a night! Or you can stay at Warrens beach place which is right on the beach and the spot to kite! He is a windsurfer and caters for that. It is a great place to kite, a little choppy, i found mutants the way with fins. And when the wind goes down, the snorkelling is brilliant! Anyway hope this helps, im off to the Caribbean on the 28th for something different
