Wavekiters should read the Felix interview.
Pages 32/33
Felix's comments about riding switch are right-on.
Don't be a tweaker.
Face the wave frontside, turn off the top and follow thru with your arms.
Pretty to watch.

Horsesh1t.
I'm a natural-foot surfer.
But after years of wavesailing the West Coast frontside left...
I'm comfortable with switch.
It's a mind thing.
If you can overcome the bias, you can become totally balanced and equally strong both ways.
It just needs lots of practise.

That felix interview is the biggest load of s.hit ive ever read, wat a tool. he says its so important to ride switch because thats what other good sports athletes do like burnquist and so on, except the one sport that he is poorly imitating (surfing) doesnt do that at all, i dont see kelly out there kooking it on his switch side, instead i see him using it to his advantage being able to spin into different style airs an so on just like wakeboarders do riding toeside into the wake instead of natural.
P.S. if he was f'ing killing it like kelly i would agree with him but hes not hes crabbing it big time.

Actually jumpin Dave,

Heaps of surfers ride switch and most top pros can do it with their eyes closed.
There's been tons of surf mag sequences with Slater going into the tube at Back Door natural, and coming out goofy. Simon Law did it all the time back in the day, the Cooly kids are all over it now.

It's common matem, real common. Not easy, but common.

hey ben. obrien rips at goin in switch at pipe an commin at natural (watch campain2 sickest section) but thats not the point, im not righting off going switch im all for it, but.... hes knockin riding backhand like its something kooky to do and people only do it because they cant ride switch when the truth is, backhand opens a multitude of different approaches and takeoffs from the lip where totally different moves can be done., to say that backhand is **** because u cant flow and open up your body an this an that is just pure ignorance. riding switch is cool and quite technical but it is more of a novelty than anything. if felix actually was ripping switch and pulling off some insane **** like rodeo clowns and such (maybe even riding unstrapped switch) maybe i would listen to his ramblings a bit more, but the truth is hes crabbing it and claiming it like its going out of style.
p.s. i actually like watching guys on there backhand kiting a bit more than forehand as they tend to flow into their turns more surf like and tend not to butt drag all the time.

The simple fact is,
the guys who ride switch are also quite capable at backhand too...
but they opt not to tweak cause it's terribly limiting.

The body language is all wrong for rail to rail turns and the kite can't be placed where you want it.
Backhand looks a lot like a waterskier getting towed behind a slow boat.
Tail dragging in the wave with the nose sticking up at a silly angle.
lol

I'd be stoked if I could ride waves switch. But it would take soo much practice to get as smooth as your forehand.

sik mag.
