Anyone been here and have any feedback for me? We (about 6 kiters) are going to Naviti Resort, Fiji, in June this year. Are there good kitesurfing spots off the resort and what wind can we expect?
trade winds are SE, Now these trade winds run along the coast at the top part of the main island and come out into the Bligh Waters.
So the compression effect right at the tip of the main island adds about 5kts to any wind.
So that's where you look for the most chance of wind. Then you have to add boat support to get to clear wind and reef protected flat water.
We go every year and come back kited out, blisters on hands, callouses on tops of feet, looking for a rest from kiting. usually half way through 2nd week it a case of wake up see the trees bending, and think "Oh No, not still windy". sometimes we have turned up at the 2day lull (9 day Trade wind cycle) and on 2nd day have some of our group getting anxious. we laugh and tell them to make the most of the rest time. Then it's on and several sessions per day adding upto 6hrs kiting time per day for next 7 days has them praying for the next 2 day rest.
There is nothing more Zen than passing islands as the sun sets and using the porch light of the lodge to navigate the last 2-3 k's home after an Epic arvo session on the reef.
I stayed at the sister hotel the Warwick which is about 20 mins down the rd. Stayed during August this year and had a ball.. 13-25 kts every day..
Kited 3 days out of the 5. Out front of Naviti/Warwick is a reef which was great flat water on high to mid low. If your up for getting across the reef some reasonable swell was also to be enjoyed.. Its got nothing on the north part of the island but I enjoyed leaving my gear pumped up by the bar drinking then kiting then drinking then ... U get the picture... :-)
Take your gear u will be very annoyed if you get the odd windy day and haven't got it.. I will be honest its the second year ive been the 1st year I didn't unpack my gear.... due to no wind....... But thats life
Enjoy the cocktails sun sand and hopefully the wind..
As said in this thread the best winds and swell are up north of the island
