I've heard differing reports about Fiji.

I'd planned to go in August for 7 days (Malolo Lailai Island) with my boyfriend, who is a complete newby, but have heard conditions are erratic with wind less likely than at Aitutaki - and lots of coral. I'm wondering if it is going to be worth the money - for him particularly.

Any info would be appreciated.

I went there in September two years ago for 7 days with the wife and kids. I got two days kiting with one great flat water session on a sandbank just offshore from the Island. It's probably not the place to go if kiting is your main priority as launching and landing is difficult due to limited space at high tide, and conditions are a bit hit and miss

i was there last august for 7 days, had 5 days of constant wind, started about 18-20 knots the first day was blowing 25-30 the 5th day, rained the night of the 5th day then was as dead as a fence post the 6-7th day.

i was told by the guy at the resort they normally have 3 days of nothing then the wind comes in for 5 days or so, slowly building up to a storm, then the storm rolls through and it is quite again for a few days

A strong el nino pattern is predicted to form later this year. i would do a little research and see how this will affect the general weather patterns in the central western pacific.

I stayed at plantation island resort on island of Malolo LaiLai. It's a good resort for families with kids and the fact that I got out for some kiting was a bonus. It's close to a lot of great surf breaks, guys were hiring boats and going for a early morning surf and still had plenty of time to do the family stuff afterwards. I wouldn't go there if your main aim was to do a lot of kiting. I believe there are a lot better places in Fiji for this

Not sure of the Island your going to but generally Fiji wind is not reliable , coral is a problem for learners, worth throwing the kite in just in case.

My main aim is family holiday like yours. But sneak out for a kite once in a while if it's windy.
