G'day all.

I ride in tidal flats where on a low tide there may be only mm of water in places.

I got sick of catching a fin at speed and getting thrown off the board, so I took my fins off.

The area I board in also has waves - sometimes of a reasonable size.

Taking the fins off has not affected the board at all (155 with a reasonable rocker) - if anything it has made it even more fun for big slidy turns. It rides waves just fine and I can hold down a lot of kite without losing an edge.

Are fins therefore a waste of time & $$$ or is it just the style of board that is making them redundant for me?

i took my fins off.. or more like broke em off from hittin a kicker but i love my board without em.. i got a mssive rocker so i didn't noticeTOO much of a difference. awsome for flat water and flat 3's and stuff... but when you start getting overpowered in choppy water it gets really annoying cause i end up keep sliding out cuase of the massive choppy **** water.. and makes landing blind a tad harder
