I've experimented with a few setups, but I'm yet to land the monster tuna or salmon. Due to an upcoming trip to warm, bountiful waters I'm experimenting with new rigs.

Has anyone else got any rigs they've tried, or managed to catch a fish with?

I've got a quick release off the back of the harness to a very long leader with lure.

I remember seeing a photo of a guy with an Albacore or similar in a mag that he'd caught whilst kiting. He's my hero.

Other methods (without lure) have involved bodily throwing myself upon fishy creatures other than stingrays and weird looking ****, although totally hilarious its generally not very effective.

Warning! only go fishing in sub 18knots, on a semi powered setup, no one around, wearing safety goggles, shark repellent, epirb, flares, and all wrapped in cotton wool. Fishing hooks can be nasty.

Just remember to burlie the water up really well first with heaps of cow blood.
Attracts predatorial fish for miles.
And look out for the sandgropers

Yeah couta have been after it before and barrel pike. You just have to make big long turns, and keep your speed under control and remember what you're doing... yeah and if you hook up keep moving or bustout. Somehow I don't think i'll being going 6 miles out for a tuna thou!

The windsurfers use rods on the back of their boards and have events and all in Maui.

"I have heard of" someone kiting at the same beach his mates were fishing, and on one tack he ferried one mate's lure out to a channel beyond casting range, dropped it off and kited off out of the way.

About three years ago, I kited over a large school of australian salmon, and felt a bump. I tacked back, and found a good size fish floating upside down. He must have put his head up at the wrong time. I stopped, picked him up be the tail and sailed into the shore and gave it to a fisherman there. He was impressed.

Maybe you should mount a minature baseball bat under your board, and give up on this hook business!

Your scenario transcends this separation. It's very zen. Man and fish become one. It's worth giving the man/fish dualism a bit of thought though. Especially in the south.

When I have fish and chips, man and fish become one and that's very zen. So much so that I like to fall asleep on the couch if I ate a lot :P

and never ever try it after dark because night kiting is very very dangerous

Maybe 'participated'?

some of this is becoming hard to decipher. Generally a 30m leader coiled or run out along the beach, kite already up, and off you go. Mind you down here I'm on my own most of the time, it's just experimenting with no-one else around.

I thought more guys would've been into it or tried it at least, anyway I'll post pics when and if I drag dinner to shore!
