Change your work hours. Renegotiate your contract so that you can start at 7am and be out on the water by 3:30pm... or shorten your working day. ;)
My workplace is quite understanding and lets me take a couple of hours out of the day so i can catch a seabreeze... as long as i make the hours up later it's fine. Works great until there's 7 days straight of sensational wind, then i start getting the evil eye.
totally agree... the days of "everyone must comply with 9-5 standard working hours" are over in the big cities. Imagine EVERYONE in cities like melbourne or sydney, working from 9-5... can you imagine the traffick jams on the road, trains etc etc... as if isn't already bad enough. It is ridiculous for companies to demand that all employees do those exact hours. In fact, having people do different shifts would help ease traffic congestion during peak hours... i.e. some people would prefer coming in later and leaving later, and dedicated kitesurfers prefer to start very early, and knock of 3 pm (in case there is wind). What about families with kids in school who have to be picked up at 3pm etc. In summary, if you do your job good, the boss won't care what hours you do, although you may get an evil eye from other employees, but then if you gain good reputation, who gives a **** what those lazy colegues who can't be bothered to get up early think anyway...
Don't worry Dr Funk, in time you'll rearange your life conveniently to support your kitesurfing needs. Just one advice: do not ever renovate a house during the season.!! Big mistake!!
