Fuerte is part of the Canary Islands, it belongs to Spain, gets most of its wind during european summer, so our winter, have been there in Febuary a few years back, you need a car to get around, plenty of great spots, with flat water and waves. If you want a bit of euro night life its not the best pick, but plenty of characters hanging about and not too expensive once your there, you might spend the same as just going to cocos. Plenty of other spots to check out in Europe aswell

I've been to Fuerteventura twice for kitesurfing and loved every minute of it. The wind howls most of the time. The 1st year was a little extreme for the 1st couple of days with winds 40 - 60 knots...I was kiting on a 3m inflatable on a 90cm board, not really enjoying myself...But then the wind dropped down to 25 -35 knots.
Most people travel up to the north of the island, it has more to do in case you have some non kiters with you. The North has some really good spots for waveriding (in the morning you can ride wind from the right and in the afternoon wind from the left).
The south of the island (Sotavento)is a little more isolated, it has cross off winds, but the resorts are fully equiped to deal with these conditions. They will have a team on skis on the water to help out if need be. This is the location of the PKRA event.
If you need further information contact Rene Engli emial mailto:[email protected] he operates the watersports down south.
The weather both times was perfect, the water warm & crystal clear, the locals were really nice and a good range of accommodation. I would go back again given the chance.
I would recommend a hire car for some of your trip just to get around and see some of the island.

ptj2006...

What was the advanced instructors name ?

Did you meet a guy with the Zephyr group named 'Guido' ?

Also interested in the zephyr website ... I've got one, but it won't load up for some reason...

cheers and thanks,
Buzz
