Got a sms last night from some “person” wanting to buy my kite off SB. He asked for my best price and could only communicate by email although he had sms'd me.

So I emailed him this morning a price of $1,900 (kite is advertised for $990)

His reply:
Hello,
Thanks for the swift reply, price is okay and i want you to get back to me with more pictures because i am not available at the moment, i am in Malaysia and i will be using this here in Malaysia. I will be handling the pick up of this through a legitimate shipping agent that has their headquarter situated in Malaysia. Please note that i will not be needing the registration(if there is any to be done) because it will be invalid over here so please remove the registration. It will be picked up after you receive the full payment, so i really need to know the mode of payment because i need this urgently.

I'd like to know certain things too

Are you the first owner?
Does it have any disabilities presently?
What is your reason for selling it?
I'm sorry, just want to be sure about the sale before i proceed.

Andrew

So I reply to Andrew:
Preferred mode of payment - Cash
Are you the first owner? - I am the 3rd owner
Does it have any disabilities presently? - Yes it pulls to one side
What is your reason for selling it? - Because the pulling to one side annoys me

And here is the additional photo I sent

Andrews reply:
Thanks a lot. I have actually tried to get this kind here earlier from here but most of the ones I got either have one huge mechanical fault or the other and some are extremely exorbitant. As to the price, Price is Ok. So if you deem the offer good enough, I will be very glad to make the payment asap through my PayPal account as I am currently offshore and I won't definitely be able to make it to my bank to make bank wires across to you. As to shipping, I have a private shipping agent here in Malaysia that will come for the pick-up of the merchandise after the payment has been sent and you have received it in full. Do get back to me asap with your PayPal Email address and Full name so that I can remit the payment asap.

My reply:
I don't have a PayPal account but I guess I could set one up or if you wait a week I have a mate going to Malaysia and he could drop it off and collect the cash.

Andrews reply:
I want you to know that i can only use paypal as my mode of payment due to the facts that i have explained you in my previous message. I want you to try and register an account with paypal as its very simple and easy and i promise you that you would not regret using there service because i have been using there service for the past 6 years now for so many transactions via the internet and i have not regret using it for once. I want you to logon to www.paypal.com and click on the sign up button, then you register your details there and you will see its free and fast and as soon as you are done with that, then get back to me with your paypal email and i will proceed with the payment immediately.

My reply:
I'm having trouble setting up the PayPal, it said "Choose a password" but there are none there for me to choose from?

Andrews reply:
You could use your name as your password and add a number..Like tony1...Try it and get back

My reply:
It said I have to use eight characters and I can only think of 5; Micky Mouse, Donald Duck, Tom & Jerry and Snow White

Now I'm getting bored with him.............

Have had similar fun, told the "buyer" that I did not have PayPal, asked if he could pay into my visa account, acted dumb and offered to supply the card number, expiry date, 3 digit code on back, full name etc. I could almost sense him salivating as he replied...

Please read from the bottom up to make sense, alex is the scamer but it becomes hard to tell, never got any money but got quite close I believe

Hi Alex,

My account is with the St George bank, which is also the bank I have the loan approved with. They have said that as soon as I can show them the deposit they can release the loan funds, so the same day if during business hours.

Account name: Thomas
BSB number:  112
Account number:  4653

I am appreciative of your help with this and am looking forward to the new car.

Regards

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

The delivery is included.
Ok, lets get this over with. If I send you the $1000, how soon do you think you can have the loan approved? Give me your account details so I can make the transfer.

All the best,
Alex

Hi Alex,

I agree it is not that much and I have tried to borrow from family but I have recently moved from New Zealand so that is proving difficult. I thought it would be better to borrow from you as I would be paying you back when I send the money for the car in one or two days. The bank has approved the loan once I can show them the deposit so it would be no problem.

Also was the delivery included in the price or was that extra. Hopefully the car is still available.

Regards

Thomas

Thomas,

But don't you have the $1000 deposit

Hi Alex,

Still very keen on the car. I am happy to proceed as described but can only offer you $10,000 for the car. Also I need to get a loan from the bank but they will only lend me 90% of the value of the car. I can tell the bank I will buy the car for $11,500 and they will lend me the full $10,000. Problem is I need $1,000 deposit which I would need to borrow from you to get the loan. Once I received the loan from the bank I could then deposit $11,000 into your bank account, $10,000 for the car and repaying you your $1,000. I can get the loan as soon as I have the deposit.

The Car is the exact type I am after so as long as it is in the condition stated it will be fine.

I can receive the money via Paypal so you can be assured your money will be safe.

Regards

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

I am currently out of town and I wont be back for the next 2 weeks or so. I am in WA with my son for a treatment at Radiowave Clinic. I am looking for a fast deal here, hence the low price. The car is in the shipping company's custody and it will be delivered to the next owner with the necessary documents for the title transfer. Of course many of the interested buyers asked me to see the car in person and pay cash. This is not possible, the shipping company is not a car dealer and of course they won't do this because they would lose the contract.

I am not asking you to pay for a car you didn't see, maybe the car is not as described, you need to see it before giving me the money. I propose a few alternatives to choose from. We can close the deal trough eBay, or an escrow company. They are offering similar services. You will make the payment to one of them and the shipping company will deliver the car to you. YOU WILL HAVE 5 DAYS TO INSPECT AND TEST THE CAR BEFORE TAKING A DECISION. I WILL NOT RECEIVE ANY MONEY FROM YOU IF YOU WILL NOT BUY THE CAR, BUT I'M SURE THE FIRST TO SEE WILL BUY IT.

If you don't agree to my proposal, please don't insist with other ideas, I dont have time to waste. If you agree just choose one service and get back to me, otherwise I will move to the next prospective buyer...

God Bless,
Alex

Hi there,

This is about my Mitsubishi advertised on carsales. As you can see from the pictures it is absolutely immaculate, with a 3 litre petrol engine, and automatic gearbox. The odometer is reading 133000 kms. The paint job shines in the sun, no scratch, always garaged overnight, never smoked inside. Always maintained to the highest level with all the maintenance done only at Mitsubishi. I have full service history for it with log books and everything. Never been involved in an accident, no flood damage, drives like new. Rego due on Mar 2012. If you want to run some checks, the vin is: JMF0RK9605J000634, engine no: 6G72RQ9867

No finance owning, the title is clear. The car's registration roadworthy have been paid so you don't have to worry about anything just transfer and drive.

It took me a while to reply because I am currently out of town. The price is $11500(negotiable). Let me know if you are still interested in buying it.

Cheers,
Alex

I had a similar one, but I didn't bother playing with him. The buyer's email address appeared to be in the US and he appeared to be in Boston. I didn't even bother to reply. So it's not just Nigeria or Malaysia or somewhere that would automatically get you thinking. Trouble is, next thing these people will do is set up with an australian email address and Aussie phone.

I believe that many of these scammers try to get you to send money via western union. Maybe you can tell him you have transerred the money, but to a western union agent in the next town? Let him go for a walk/ride/drive for his troubles?

Just started reading this one, am up to the part where...

"Our insurance department immediately took the rodent to the vetenary surgeon for inspection to ascertain the cause of death, which it transpired was a case of stuffmefatgutzwivwud, which in laymen's terms means it was poisoned by ingesting too much of the wood from the carving"

IF you really want to scammer the scammer, agree to send the package to the new address ( ie the one not linked to the paypal account) but then do actually send some rubbish to the address linked to paypal. Keep the registed post proof, so when they raise a dispute that it was not sent, you can show that it was.
then they are screwed , and you keep your item , and their cash.

I seen an outboard on Gumtree, thought I would send an email to look and buy.
As follows from the start

(Me)
Hi, Do you still have the outboard for sale?.
If you do what town/suburb do you live - just if close enough I could pick it up and pay cash. My no is 0433 xxx xxx and live in brisbane.
Cheers Andrew

(Seller)
Hello,
Now, I'm visiting my daughter in London, Uk, for a month. I sell this boat motor so I can buy for her new home, furniture. She just moved on with her husband over here. That's why I'm selling it at this low price, is the rush, who force me. The boat motor is located in Beenleigh, QLD 4207, at the shipping company. I have a contract with them, and they will handle everything including shipping and insurance. We will make the transaction through eBay, they will act as a third party, this way, we will be both grant protected. So if you are interested to buy, please let me know your full name and address, so I can speak with eBay to send you an invoice, and explain all details, regarding this transaction.
Thanks.

(Me)
Hi
I would like to have a look at the outboard and pay cash. I only live 45mins away from Beenleigh.
I am sure the shipping company could forward you the money as you know them.
If this is ok, I have the cash ready and can bring my trailer to collect the outboard ASAP ( if the motor is ok - once seen )
Thanks
Andrew

(Seller)
I'm not in country, and it's not possible to me to come, and set up a meeting, and it's not my fault that the shipping company can't arrange meetings.
The motor is in Beenleigh at a company that I have a contract with. unfortunately they can't arrange for my customers to come and see it. the good news is that this company will deliver the motor at your house free of any charge. if you find that the motor doesn't meet your expectation you can send it back the same day via the same company. don't worry, everything will be alright. You have a 7 days to inspected the motor and send me back.

Now I replied to this add on Gumtree not Ebay, which is where he wants this transaction done. I have not replied back yet. And it sound like he is cranky with me the way he states it's not my fault.

Just to be clear I am a different Andrew from the top post

A couple of weeks ago I was selling a bike on gumtree and got a scammer. Initial contact via SMS and then emails similar to everyone else. I started to toy with him but I lost interest very quickly and just reported him to gumtree. I figured I have better things to do with my life than waste it on some looser.

I did actually put a $Mill in for him!.... Just to get rid of him...it worked....I have not heard from him since....

Sometimes it's better just to pay the money and get rid of them..... consider it as "paying it forward".

Don't waste your time on this... At the end of the day the scammer is actually getting the last laugh with you. While he's sitting in front of his plasma TV with a cold beer enjoying the game, you're taking time out of your day to respond to a robot like application he's built.
