Hi Guys,

Can anyone advise reccomend with experience and accuracy the possibilites and logistics of getting a new bar for a GK Sonic 14mt 2006 model.

The situation is that the first / early design of the bar failed as the stopper didn't stop, this meant that you needed gogo gadget arms every time you let go of the bar, or very long arms. (Fortunately i'm 6'3", but they are still not long enough). I've researched into arm extension operations, however HBF won't cover it and i think I would have troubles buying shirts in the long run!

The power up sheath thing is also not great any more, or the robe is too thin, as i need to do a half hich to stop the kite powering up. (Its just getting old, as the screws are rusting as well).

The alternative is to try a later bar on the old kite. I do like the kite and intend to keep it. Does anyone have a solution?
I've a mate with the same kite and problems also, so it could be a double purchase.

Can a later model GK bar work ok?
How much for a bar?
Where can i get a bar?

I live in Broome, with light winds.

Thanks guys, any help or advice would be great!

Baz, contact Alex or Aaron at STONKER, Torquay, VIC. ph: 03 52616077

GK importer and distributor, they will sort you out pronto.

OR, Ive got a 2007 14m Sonic in as new condition, kite/bar/lines/bag/pump, that I might be conned into selling if the price is right, send me a message.

You only need to modify the depower setup to your liking. No reason to ditch the kite if it's only the bar throw distance that is giving you trouble.

Check out some of the other manufacturers depower setups and see if you like any of them. The Naish '08/09 smartloop setup has a sliding stopper that works very well for me. Slingshot has a very similar setup also with a sliding stopper.

I've seen a few different depower setups for the '06 Sonics so i'm not really sure what they had from the factory. Might just try replacing the depower rope with something the same diameter but newer - might help hold the stopper ball in place.

if the bar is too far, why don't you pull the rope to grab the bar (too difficult to think about that), if the bar is out, the kite is depowered so no problem.

do you have the sonic 06? is it still flying?

I wanted to throw mine away, but someone gave me 250$ for it 6 month ago.
everything on it was ****ed:

- quick release and chicken loop replaced
- clam cleat and depowering rope replaced twice
- leading edge repaired 3 time
- 5 repairs on the canopy
- fabric ****ed
- lines connection worn out
- valves stoppers lost

when I had the 06, I turned the clam cleat upside down, only takes about 10 minutes to do, that worked much better, easier to operate and worked a treat, it never let go after that.

I used to have 06 (and an 07) sonics. Really any bar for an SLE kite will work with it, it might need some extra pigtails if sle for another kites bar is a bit different from the sonic.

I've used my RRD bar on a sonic kite and a waroo bar on my RRD no dramas. Just find a bar you like and give it a go.
