Doesn't everyone eventually get lofted?

It happened to me today at Woodies...fun but a bit of a fright

Expected an uneventfull session this morning at Woodies as I only brought the 9m. Wind on and off all day, but there were gusts to be used for jumping

There I was up in the air and coming down when up again she went....my body is spinning and I'm scared ****less.....thank God I was in the water and landed on my feet.....the shore was not that far away

This sport does have very radical unexpected happenings.....stay in the water and give yourself plenty of clearance because wierd stuff can happen when you least expect it!

Got to expect that kiting in a Sou Easter

Saw 1 kite out while driving past Pinnaroo Pt early afternoon and it looked pretty offshore, nice and flat though.

was kiting at the inlet in vic last week on a northerly, wind was gusting between 18 to 25 plus knots i suppose. Came in for a break only to see three guys get tea bagged by the same gust!! Was pretty funny from the shore until we saw one dude release his whole kit, so we bolted down to collect his kite and he seemed to be in trouble, he ended up with a broken ankle!! Great spot but northerlies down here can be a bit gusty, plus kiting on a 5 inch sandbar doesn't make it any safer, all good on the 9m nova though!

I was still holding onto the bar, thought I would ride it out and see where it takes me. Had a few good 20-30m teabags lost about 200m, eventually ended up on the beach and decided it was probably time to let go of the bar. Kite depowered but still was taking off and pulling a bit, it actually took off and flew from one side to the other over the zenith while completly depowered. It was like 25knots than the squall came through so **** knows how windy it was, on an 11 btw.

Exactly the same thing happened to me a few months ago in the UK. PL 11m G2, standing there waiting for a rain cloud to go away and suddently I'm lifted clean out of the water and slammed onto the hard beach sand. Almost broke my fingers trying to get to the quick release. Sore hand, sore neck (again), and a face full of sand left me feeling absolutely sh i t house and I decided to give up kitesurfing. I was totally demoralized. A few days later though sense came back into my head when I realised that Australian beach's are much softer, the water much clearer, and the westerly winds a lot more consistent. I don't kite in questionable conditions any more. Just not worth the risk.

When I first started kiting I got lofted 3 times in quick succession while standing on the beach. Very scary and all happened very fast. First one was about 1 metre up, second one was 2 metres or so and the third was way higher and landed me in the water at least 10 metres from where I started. I crashed the kite in the water as I landed the third one and called it a day!

1m up and 10m boost down wind, a short loft into the scrub @ corro then ejected no worries
Lofting is all part of the kiting overpowered experience, rip into it on the water and quick release as soon as you hit the beach
