these days after a decent session on the water, my knees get sore and the cartilage makes a disconcerting squelching for a few days afterwards. without knowing it i've turned into an old fella.
i've heard glucosamine works well for joint pain but was wondering whether it acts on the cartilage or joint fluid? and are there any bad side effects (good ones are welcome)?
is anyone out there taking the stuff or have some advice for a creaky old man?
thanks, pa

Hey, read this: www.medicinenet.com/script/main/notfoundstatic.asp

It seems to infer that the sulfate version is the one to get. Problem is, I'm not sure I've seen this mix being sold...

I remember reading some rather nasty side effects of Glucosamine, in the medium to long term.

Then again, for those who are "up there" long term is not really an issue!

This reply by the GREAT GALAH proves he is not the infamous CJP as Col takes glucosamine every day as well as fish oil by the bucket,
and his knees don't squeek at all.

No side effects here, been taking it for several years.
Have found the powdered version from the brand Pretorious is the most concentrated and best value for money.
Its sold as a twin pack 100g bottles, one bottle is Glucosamine Sulphate and the other is called MSN, you need to take these 2 indredients together.

Check the percentage of these 2 ingredients in any tablets or powders, most of the stuff on the market is heavily diluted with other crap. The Pretorius stuff is pure, no additives or fillers.

Tastes pretty foul, but you get used to it.
Takes about 2 - 4 weeks before you feel the real benefits, then you can have a week off it once every few months. Some people get a bit of indigestion, I did but it went away. Have never taken the fish oil I just eat fish a few times every week.

Plenty of stretching and other core strength maintaining exercise DAILY, really help too.

Glucosamine has worked wonders for me also.
I have(in the last 8 months ) converted over to a new product that includes 8 essential sugar based nutrients, essential to cell rejuvination, Not just the one as in glucosamine.
The product is called "Ambrotose" and is supplied by a company called "mannatech".
It's a powder...it doesn't taiste at all.
I take it twice a day.
It is even better than the regular Glucosamine....and is roughly the same cost.
To get the stuff home delivered call Wayne or Karen Lee on 0412 785198 or 0423 820 590. and mention that Tone the kitesurfer from Anna bay sent ya.

Start it now so that you can reap the benifits properly, it doesn't work as a remedy, rather as a preventative. I have read reports that, at least, 2,000mg once a day is needed to be therapeutically effective. Also that 2-3 months of use is needed to see the benifits.

I can also highly recommend the use of footpads that are thick and soft, and boards that flex/ride smoothly. I find it better on the joints to ride a smaller board, riding more powered, than riding a big board, less powered... but that is just my observation.

Hmm, Brain lock for my last post.

Glucosamine doesnt USUALLY have nasty side effects, and is "much better" than some other remedies to the same problems.

Although one MAJOR side effect can be GAS. Maybe that will be my secret to boosting big this summer...
