Hi there! I'm off to Gnaraloo Wednesday for 8 days. Been up there a few times before surfing but this time I'm packing the 12m kite as well. Whats my chances of a kite this early up there?

Hey garth,

I went up in mid-late August last year for a surfing trip for 4 days and had one good day with the wind a bit offshore and very low tides exposing reef everywhere. Gusty wind and low tides make getting in and out over the reef from the beach treacherous as hell.

Make sure you take some epoxy Solarez and a few spare fins. I ended up riding my surfboard back in over the reef tail first, not easy with the super flukey and gusty off shore winds in the late arvie. Reckon I was lucky!

Certainly wasn't epic wind, but the waves were super sucky with the low tide and gave me a few good scares and bloody good fun.

I'd take the kite and expect not to use it, go enjoy the surf and if you get a good day in, take it as a bonus rather than expecting a session that way you wont be disappointed.

You probably wont find any poleboarders or kiters up there this early, mainly surfers and fisherman, so make sure you know your self launch and land.

Have fun,

Thanks Kitehard, good advice!
Thanks also Laurie, I have been checking that forcast there, it doesn't look too exciting for kiting in the first few days of being up there but the swell forcast does! Its going to be huge!
