Saturday the 3rd, we receive 8 complaints from head lifeguards about wreckless kiters going straight thru flagged areas!!!

Straight thru the middle of people and in close to the shore line.

WOT THE HELL!!

These people know who they are as they were told repeated by lifeguards to get out of the areas.

Do you guys want the sport banned!!! U TOOLS.

There seems to be a smaller number of kiters that really couldn't give a crap about what happens to the sport here.

So to all the kiters that are well behaved. If you see someone doing the wrong thing, please go and inform about the right thing to do. If they insist on doing the wrong thing than go tell a lifeguard on duty.

If we all work together we can protect our beloved sport, if not then we will lose it.

Please if anyone has any ideas on how we can keep these tools out of the flags, please let us know.
1 idea i was thinking of was to do what they do with surfers, take their gear off them if they are intruding on their duty of care.

The lifeguards are really not happy. They writting a memo to us and want action ASAP.

STAY OUT OF THE FLAGS AND OUT OF THE ALLEY!!!

Not only is it vistors but it's locals aswell.
Come on guys get real, this is serious.

cheers Paul Jackson

Hey Paul looks like you need to start a kitesurfing club.

We have the same problem here in Sydney Botany Bay, mainly Dolls Point. The council was thinking of banning the sport in the Bay which none of us wanted, so we had a few meetings and now we have a club.

Although the club is new its a step in the right direction and hopefully we can continue to kite in the Bay for a while yet.

One advantage of the club it has made everyone aware of the Do's and Dont's around the Bay and as time goes on most kiters will get involved and guide new kiters in the Bay in the right direction so the sport does not get banned.

Although you will always get the odd idiot, but together as a group we have more of a chance of getting it right before it all goes wrong.

And from all reports the Council is quiet supportive of the club and has acknowledged that its a step in the right direction.

Good Luck

First, make sure that everyone knows that the flags protected area extends 500 METRES from the beach! Thats HALF A KILOMETRE !

I think a lot of riders think that because they are"out the back" thats OK.

jeeze,so much water, people outside the kiteing community think its an awsome sport, there IS respect for those with the heart n skills to be out there but not for much longer if the MORONS that are throwing that respect to the wind DO NOT adhere to some simple rules,STAY AWAY FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC,that respect will surely dwindle at the expense of all of us !

Hey User,

I had a good long chat with a lifeguard at North Kirra a week ago about this, they don't have a problem if you're well away from the swimmers, despite being within 500m of the flags.
I regularly go through the flagged area (but at least 100m from the shore) and the lifeguards don't mind this at all. I explicitly asked him and he had no problem with it.

I think they do mind when kiters go whizzing through the flagged area about 2m from the shore, in that flat section that the shorebreak leaves. Total madness, I've seen this a number of times, the lifeguards take a very dim view of this as well they should. The trouble is that in the words of another lifeguard "Well, we can't catch him for a start, and last week when we caught him packing up we told him it wasn't on but he just laughed in our faces".

*sigh*

This topic was discussed at length at KFC and Shearwater today by many members and non members of SEQKA.

These guys will be outed and both Frank and Paulio will be sitting on their heads to cause a temporary deprivation of oxygen.

Seriously though. All have had a heads up. The members know the rules and will inform those who don't.

That's one of the benefits of the club.

Using the forum and having a club is a good start but how about putting up signs.
I thought kiting in the alley was banned but saw guys doing it and of cause wanted in on the fun. (this was a while back so don't blame me)

Ummm... legally, they are no different from surfboreds. Generally, stink boats must stay 200M away from designated swimming areas, but kites are just glorified skegs.

BTW, I saw a couple of those dickheads from QLD (obviously over for the Aus Surf LifeSaving Champs at Scarb)working the surf at Trigg (Perth) on the Aus Day weekend. Thing is, I didnt really see a problem. MayB Sum ppl just cant handle anythink different...?

Hey - don hit me - I'm just donating to the discusshon....!

I was surprised with the wind up so early yesterday and not many of u were out at Narrowneck. Only 3 kiters out at Narrowneck when we left at about 1ish, but we saw quite a few in near the spit/kfc on the way home.

First kite ever in the surf and considering how crappy the so called waves were (lol), I was pretty impressed. Especially with it being windy and kiteable for me at 7:30.

The bloke with the 9 slingy and srt with straps (by the looks of it) was ripping it up something unbelievably sweet. [}:)]

Will venture down again soon.

Sub note:- Ashame to hear about kiters in between flags etc and a few problems there; nearly thought that was common sense, or at least if you don't follow along on kiting rules and locations on Seabreeze, to ask kiters u see down there.
Protect ur spot and WARN other kiters you see being stupid before another 'Wello' happens...
