A few of us in the Townsville area are getting pretty keen to organise an outer reef trip in the first half of the year, maybe as soon as April when the first solid 15-25knot trade burst comes back through. Launching from the cays. Waves. Lagoonal flat water.

Many of the details are already in place with respect to vessels, tenders, etc. We are thinking videography and stills footage tied in. Could be possible to take kickers too.

Just wanting to hear expressions of interest from NQ kiters and also those further afield.

send me an email.

peace

Andy

Always interested in a reef trip. Here's an image from the Cairns Kiteweek reef trip taken in 2005. www.seabreeze.com.au/gallery/gallery.asp?imageid=982
What this about the Port Douglas comp? More details please.
Capn Gumby, you must be at work huh? What a shame it's a lovely solid 15knots from the NE on a good tide at Machans, keep an eye out for the Rhino at the river mouth, you should be able to see it from the control room! Ha ha,.

Yeah Box,

thanks for the pic link. That is what we have in mind, except on a reef where the cay is close to the northern end. That will put us close to the wrapping waves on the reef edge, and it should be the perfect angle for downwind RH waveriding on the usual SE'ly.

I know a good reef out off Hinchinbrook that has the right setup. I have to dig out the charts and do a sweep of some others with cays between TSV and Cairns. There are also some good candidates in the Innisfail sector that I've seen from the aircraft while travelling between the 2.

I'm keen as... - there are plenty of coastal spots that are worth trying as well - cowley beach gives you a choice of about 4 close by islands that are worth kiting to, as well as plenty of other spots that just look great from Google Earth - so many spots so little time. The spots just between Cairns and Townsville are amazing.
The Cairns Kiters have been organising regular jaunts and downwinders, but after 3 consecutive no wind events, it kind of petered out.
Keep us informed and I'm sure a core crew can be organised.
