China kites were in the news a-plenty a while ago for quality (Not sure it this was true or not)

Do a google or check out kiteforum.... Quite a few vocal guys in NZ...

My advice is to stick to your local kite shops (or at least the brands they support -- that way you have spare parts and you help out these guys that are in a cut-throat business)

Hi Sharkbait,

We had one of our customers who bought a kite "cheap" in China for only $1000 AUD.

It turned out to be an unrideable piece of rubbish. The kite was a total waste and was only really any good for a wall hanging in a bar room. There are cheaper bar decorations around.

If you buy a lemon or it needs repair, you have no options and no warranty, or a back to factory warranty at your expense. I wouldn't touch it for $100

Support your local shop, at least then you get local backup and you are buying a reputable brand/name with some residual value.

What little resale you are able to get will be available to you, as opposed to zero resale of an unknown "no Frills" brand.

You always get what you pay for in life, especially with kites!

Hope this helps,

Hi Sharkbait,

I had a look at the details from the link. Quite a few kites under the brand name "China Kites" were sold over here in the west many years ago(and no doubt in other states to). The China kite brand died when best came along (who in my opinion forced other manufacturers at the time to improve their pricing... which at the time were very expensive and hence made brands like China Kites and Sandgroper Kites an affordable alternative). From what I can tell from the photo's, these look like they are manufactured from the same factory as those old C kites. I used to get kites manufactured through the same factory (sandgroper kites), and there were other well known brands also being manufactured through this factory (I personally saw them being manufactured). So the quality of the kite would no doubt be excellent (assuming its from the same factory). But as far as the design and flying characteristics go... who knows! If you purchase, I would love to hear what you think.

As far as all the brand crap you will hear on this forum, thats nothing new. The industry is so small and clicky here in Australia don't believe anything you hear from a shop or someone with a vested interest... the only way to know is to test for yourself. Goodluck!

Hey Rellie... Ray wants a lolly.

2 bucks a day!?!? It must take them about 35 weeks, working 7 days, to make a single kite... given how much they charge for them... or (more likely) someone is making a lovely profit margin.

Makes one wonder if enjoying a sport supported by slave labour is all that much fun
But then again, just about everything made from China or a 3rd World country is based on slave labour and 'greedy' corporate dealers, so who gives a toss ?

or if wearing clothes is actually the "decent" thing to do... not many manufacturers bother to tell us how they treat their employees/slaves.

Yep, them 'Hang Ten' T's sure screw up the environment, especially when they make them at 20 cents a piece, sell them at Tarjet (The Fashion Capitol) at 20 bucks and it costs the environment squillions in untold damage but hey, doesn't quite affect us does it ? Well, not quite yet.

i know first hand of 2 custom hybrids with bar and lines (could choose any colour) from china $1200 the pair to the front door . 5 line set up excellent quality of construction . fly as good as any thing with a brand name . as a matter of fact you can get your name on them if you want . so if you can wait 3 weeks to save $1300 per kite than there are bargins to found . where do you think kites come from any way ? china or srilanka . the problem here is there are to many yes man connected to there local shop giving there bias opinion . theres nothing wrong with these kites at all .
