Hi,

I have the opportunity to kite in Noumea, Lifou, Villa, whilst on a P & O cruise with some non kiting friends, in September this year. As I am still a beginner, that most of the time can go upwind, I am looking for suitability and safety in these destinations, because I usually kite with the support of my much more experienced hubby. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Michelle

I was there for my Honeymoon in October 08. Noumea had some reasonable spots around Le meridian hotel at anse vata beach with alot of people around the point who would help launch/land. The water is quite shallow with some sharp reef so good idea to wear booties. Another great spot where there were learners and a kite school was a small island- ilot maitre- off anse vata. You take a water taxi from anse vata tourist bureau for around $50 which drops you off and then picks you up.

Lifou was a great island but no kiting/ good wind that I saw while I was there.

PS take heaps of money!

Contact Antoine from Noumea kite school for advice. He's a nice bloke and speaks english.

I got a lift in his boat (cheap if your just bumming a ride with your own gear) to an outer island. He also does lessons out there, though it is closed for bird migration at certain times of the year.

ive kited villa, there a surf break called breakers and it only a short van ride away from the town. However not recommended for begginners, if the winds are right head for hideaway island. Nice sand beach to play around near, much safer place
