That is definetely cool (the video), but a very expensive way to enjoy the winds and not to mention the time to setup, rig up, load, unload, prepare, check lines, etc etc etc. You would need all day just to get going for a couple of hours of wind time.
Interesting the size of the kite looked no bigger than a 15mt or 17mt kite and yet it pulled a lot of weight plus some.

... I wonder if its testing for America's Cup style of boats, the next level so to speak to mast/wing??? What speeds were they doing btw, anyone know?

all boats ships..trains..traffic; cars going round roundabouts etc should do this when man runs out oil& of gas

They have been using kites for years to propel very large ships!

Thats just a prototype which never got off the ground for obvious reasons.

We trialled a kite on an offshore yacht years ago. At best completely impractical and at worst dangerous. It worked fine by itself, but with the mainsail up there was too much of a vacuum and we couldn't launch it without a huge mess around. Mind you the design of the thing was a bag of ****.
