I am going on a mini kite trip this weekend. Taking the tent and stove. Quite keen on hitting Lancelin and further North. Does anyone want to offer up some tips for areas North of Lancelin worth exploring?

Those of you who know me that are intereste in tagging along let me know also.

Cheers

Wedge or the beaches from lano to wedge are pretty sweet but if your kiting at the wedge island don't piss off the fishers all they will cast at u!!! Its about a 30-40 min 4wd from lano..

A guy I spoke with once said Cervantes was good for kiting, good flat water spot apparently.

The beach between Lancelin and Wedge is still pretty soft at the moment (as of a week ago), so unless you're driving a monster-truck you'll have to take the inland road, which is a pain in the ass. If you've never driven the tracks North of Lancelin before I recommend using some kind of a map, whether it be paper or electronic - it can get a bit like a labyrinth out there, and that 40min drive could easily turn into a couple of hours

Oh and, of course, the smell of rotting weed at Wedge gets on the nose a bit, but it is a great kiting spot. At the moment the south point at Lancelin is still pretty good - there weren't too many people there last weekend and it was a top 9m day. Now with DST, it doesn't get much better.

Thanks to the wonder of technology, google earth/maps can show many great spots. There is good resolution over most of the WA coast so all you need is a 4WD to find your very own "secret spot".
