Headzone helmets are waterproof, BUT their radios are not. We use similar non headzone Uniden brand radios which can be set to work with the headzone helmets. It is a shame another Aussie company may have gone under??

I'll check tomorrow, but not the expensive waterproof ones, we just use the cheaper one that still allow for fractional channel tuning, which is what Headzone used on their (very expensive, non waterproof) radios.

Sorry for the slow reply, had to dash off to Cairns for a few days to test the new 2015 Best gear!
We use 2 models, UHO38SX-2NB and UHO507SX-2NB
Switch your helmet on and select a channel, put the helmet on, then flick through the radio channels until you can hear someone talking to you, if it sounds like you talking then you've found the right channel and you are good to go.

yep, we've been using the Uniden waterproof radios for the last 2 years along with the Headzone helmets with great results.

A couple of tips that may help:

-Use waterproof bags for the radio even if it's waterproof, the voice clarity will be far better with the bag blocking the wind noise. Also, sand will eventually mess up the buttons over time if you don't use a protective bag.

-If you use the Uniden radio with Headzone helmets, Channel 1 on the helmet = Chanel 19 on the Uniden radio, Channel 2=Channel 20 and so on...(took me a while to figure this one out!)

-I recommend you use private channels (CTCSS) to avoid interference with others radios. You need to configure both the helmets and radios for this to work (see both manuals).

-Certain channels cannot be used (read the Uniden Manual)

-Lower the radio transmission wattage from 5W to 1W (low). This will reduce interference and increase transmission quality. You only need 5W transmission when going over very long distances.

-Rince the helmets thoroughly in fresh water immediately after every use. If you skip a day here and there or wait too many hours before rinsing, the helmets will eventually start to malfunction and will need to be serviced or replaced.

-Blow the water out of the helmet charging connectors before charging

-Spray WD-40 on the helmet charging connections once in a while to prevent mold and get a better connection

hope this helps

Christian
