I am currently using a FLX42 (142x40) but am thinking of getting a smaller board for stronger winds.
Kiting for a solid 2 years.
92kg
60% flat water 40% beach
Was thinking of getting 132 or 122... need advice. If anyone could offer advice including brands and sizes (including width) it would be much appreciated.
Is it possible to trial boards from any of the shops (perth) to get some idea of the differences.

I bought a 122 05 flex last week I weigh in at 70 kilos... It’s a fun board after riding a 160 all last season but having to relearn allot - think a 122 might be a bit on the small side for your weight probably best to get hold of one and give it a whirl

You could look at opposite ends of the extreme, but I would recommend you look at this board as your primary board and the larger board as your lighter wind board. I.e. Expect to ue this board 80% of the time.

If you're currently riding C kites, go for a 122. If you are currently riding bow/sle's, go for a 132.

i'm about 90kg too. i ride a 133 wide addiction edge in the light wind and a 128 edge in everything else i only have 1 kite a 13m RRD HIR and i can get out in just about anything.
if you are interested drop into SOS in freo and check them out. if we dont have wat you want in stock then give us a few days and we can custom make you one.

I ride the 132 and I`m 80kgs, I reckon it`s as small as I need.

I can hold it in conditions when i really shouldn`t be out with that much kite up.........

Hey Mamurray1,

I was riding a Protoy 135 last year at times in powered up sessions and found that the Protoy handled the chop beautifully with the double concave bottom.

I am about 85-87 kilos and wouldn't use anything much smaller. 135 is a good comfortable small board for a bigish guy, going too small becomes harder to freestyle in choppy waters and can be too difficult to maintain a steady planing speed in gusty or holey conditions.

I also rode a Switch 135 last year and it was a bit more of a general purpose board but good bottom end and good alround, but I still prefered the Protoy for a smoother less bumpy ride.

Just check out the AIrush website for board details, but certainly don't go any smaller than 135, it will be a waste of time and money for you unless you ride in glassy smooth conditions in really strong winds.

Good winds,

Thanks to all who have replied, I've trialled the 133 and 128 Addiction boards from SOS and am leaning towards the 133. Unfortunately there has not been much wind around so I had to trial them in 10 to 15 knot winds on my 17 metre kite so conditions were not exactly ideal.

Once again thanks

You will need to be carefull of asking others which size board they use these days as things have changed with the new SLE/Bow kites.
Most Bow riders can use a larger board as they dont need to edge the board as much to control the power.
Just a thought.

If you don't have a bow, go slightly smaller, around 125-130.

He's got a large board that should carry him for lighter wind. Whats wrong with the 128 or 130? (I.e. 125-130) I've seen plenty of heavier riders who have 128's as their smaller board if they have a larger board and he did say stronger winds.
