So, my wife and I were meant to be going to the snow this year, but it has all fallen through, and she has decided to look for somewhere warm to go.

Since I was hanging out to go snowboarding and it all fell through, she doesn't mind if I manage to get a few kiting sessions in on our holiday instead.

The requirements for her are that it needs to be warm, we need to be able to find a very nice hotel to chill in (4 - 5 star, lay by the pool while someone brings us drinks style action) and we need to be able to easily fly in and out of the location from Sydney.

I would obviously like somewhere that I stand a reasonable chance that the wind is going to blow, it is going to be warm enough for me to kite, and there is going to be a kite school where I can hire gear - I am between kites at the moment and it doesn't seem worth lugging a board all that way if I am going to be hiring a kite anyway.

I don't really want lessons - I am just past the point of staying upwind now - but if they don't hire gear without lessons I can happily take a lesson, it wouldn't hurt my skills.

We are looking at going for about 4 nights, if I got wind for a couple of days and one or two kite sessions I would be stoked.

Without any prompting from me she was already looking at Noosa. Any thoughts on that, or suggestions

Port Douglas, easy transfer from Cairns. They do lessons there but I'm not sure about hire gear ?

We just booked Port Douglas for a couple of weeks from now. Flights from Sydney are cheapest on Virgin Blue and were about $900 return. No idea about hotel - we're staying in a backpackers place (lying around drinking by the pool?? would rather be out kiting :D )

Yeah - but there has to be something for my wife to do WHILE I go kiting, otherwise my kiting time will be diminished significantly.

Yes. It was actually a bit cheaper if you can do a Tuesday->Tuesday flight, but we had to book Sat->Sun due to work constraints.

We just got back from Port Douglas a week ago, did not have much luck with wind as it was when the big storms were happening NSW / QLD. We did check out the local shack and chatted with a few locals, looks like a fun spot. I understand the local instructor is pretty active and I have seen him on this forum from time to time.
We stayed at Rydges Sabaya which just had a refurb not long ago, rooms are exceptional, the pool comes complete with swim up bar which should give you plenty of bonus points to get you kiting. The info is correct you should join up the Rydges Priority Guest Club (it is free on line to join) and you get ceaper accommodation and 20% off Food and Beverage.
