YAAAA HOOOOO WAAAROOOO, Here is the emotion !!!!! I can't sleep...

Can you imagine a 6"4 100KG weird looking dude yelling like he had won the lotto bearing down wind out of control coming straight at you, after landing his first Back Roll? That's what was going on for a couple of people this Friday at Blacks Beach Mackay.

The Crew here are so supportive, they cant wait to give you the high five on the beach when you get out and give it a good go, they already have me itching to try the next trick now I am an expert in the back rolls

I cannot believe it, this had to be the best Friday (any day for that matter) Mackay has had in a year for the Kite boarders... the conditions were perfect, the wind was solid and not too gusty, the tide was low and the lagoon was like glass in spots with the breakers on the other side of the sand bar.

, I have just landed my first back roll normal footed (about 5-7 really solid & ride away) and I give it a go Goofy but it was more like an off axis 3 spin, I think this sport rocks, I haven't been doing this long and my Waroo Pro 07 is the Bees Knees, I had a Naish XIII that I bought 2nd hand & used my wake board for a while. These newer Bow kites make it easy. I have an "Underground" Board too keep that layer between me and the water.

You'll be surprised at just how easy Raleys are.

Start with your kite relatively high, so you get a bit of time to work out your landing to begin with. Then, as you get the hang of it, bring the kite down lower and lower.

You need power, or you don't get enough altitude to end up with enough time to get your board back under you.

Good luck

Hey DP, before you try an unhooked raley, try and put a kiteloop in your back roll. I was scared senseless leading up to doing one of these but having done lots of them now its like "what was putting me off".

in lightish conditions, start your backroll, preferably one close to the water and then half way through your rotation, when your back is to your kite pull hard and constant on your back hand.

When you land point more down wind as opposed to the direction you entered the jump and enjoy the pull. You need to keep the pull on the bar, if you dont your kite wont complete the loop, and if you pull to early (at the start of your rotation) it makes it much harder to complete the rotation properly.

Dont hesitate, like surfing and most other sports hesitation is when you get hurt, go into the move with commitment and just pull that trigger, and in a good wind it really is a trigger!

Im starting to unhook now, first lesson I learnt was to unhook with two hands on the bar, not one on the bar ond one on the chicken loop... that was embarissing, but we learn from our mistakes!

Be great to see some pics of this spot you are kiting too!

How good is this sport!!!!!

Cheers
Lance

Cheers for the Tips lance, Saturday's session was a good one as well, The wind had changed direction so we went to a different spot, the mouth of the river was the days choice, on the other side of the rock wall it opens out to a massive beach area called far beach, its no good when the tide is out as there is sand for about 3 kms but about mid tide the water is waist deep just about anywhere. It was the first time I ventured out of the mouth of the river, it was great in the flat water.

Back to the tricks, Back rolls are well and truly sorted, (Small to Medium in size) Its time to increase the size and go big, the kite loop sounds like something I am going to master concurrently with the Raley, I had been accidentally doing the odd back roll with a kite loop by accident, what has been happening is I have been getting pulled backwards and getting thrown into a spin?? Any tips on what is going wrong here?

As for the update on the Unhooked Raley, I guess I should have learnt more about how my chicken loops goes back together!!! In this case I know what went wrong EVERYTHING.. You can imagine the look on my face when I eventually worked out how to get my chicken loop back together when I turned around to face the inevitable where is my Board??? It was nowhere to be scene I had a few of the lads scouting the area as the tide was moving out and the wind was blowing in, I started heading to shore hoping it had been blown in with the wind, It was a good time to practice those boosts we all like doing without the board, the extra height helped me looking for the board. It wasn’t long and my trusty "Underground" was sighted drinking cocktails on a sand bar about 500mtrs up wind of me.

Remember this

Good stuff , like a mate said to me do it 20 times and you will nail it, keep raising the Bar always try to improve and push yourself and when the oppurtunity arises kite different locations it makes the sport so much better and interesting.

Its good to see your a big bloke pushing yourself , its all in the head and about having a go.

Da Lo told me all about it Im glad I was not there, but it looks like I missed out on a great day.

Mate no need to travel all the time as Im sure we will all do Norah Head as well.

Seems like you guys did a fair bit of kite testing as well and all gave the Revolver the thumbs down ,interesting.

yeah it was a good day... but I think the wind came in even more when we left mate I was surprised by the amount of power rivers 9m had. I had a go, but I really needed longer on it to suss it out.... I was over sheeting it.

I wasn't into the Revolver at all. It just had this really dead feeling on the bar and was no way near as quick as the 12 Rebel. It had better low end, but it's just not my thing.... I like to feel the kite if you know what I mean.
